88 stang, wiring horn to Grant steering wheel

You have a non-CC car? It looks like it or you would have 3 wires/pins on that contact switch.

If this is so and your new wheel's horn ring is one big copper disk (with no segregations for the two pins - your OEM silpring was likely segregated for instance, you should be able to cut the ground wire. This will keep continuity of the pin going to the horn relay intact. When you install your horn button, you will connect the one lead coming from the Grant adapter's copper ring. Then make your own lead that goes from the other horn button terminal and ground it inside the steering wheel hub.

The only real difference between stock and this is that you are grounding the horn relay at the steering wheel itself instead of under the dash. But since the Grant adapter doesnt have a provision for two wires (at least mine didnt), this is how I chose to do it.

My grant horn button has provisions for a 2 wire hookup. Tell me if my original idea is correct - to cut the black wire and the purple wire and connect it directly to the 2 terminals on the new horn button. If I utilize the grant copper ring, it will not make contact with the bottom contact point. Also, the grant horn button is not grounded per the instructions that came with the steering wheel. I didnt catch your year of stang the first time. It's weird - I have an 88 GT and our 'pin connectors' are in different spots on the circumference of the wheel.

Anyhow, I think I understand your proposal. Here's the deal as I see it. You cannot cut those wires and connect them to your horn button directly. You need that 'slipring' connection so the wheel can turn without tearing wires out. See what I mean? If you cut those wires and run them to the horn button, the wires will wrap around the steering shaft when you turn. That's why if the Grant adapter is only one large contact plate (read it has one wire soldered to it), you would want to use that for the horn relay wire (probably purple - on my 3 pin connector, it was the outside-most pin and I thought it was purple/blk but would have to look). Then because you don't have another wire available on the slipring, you make a ground wire just under the steering wheel horn button (because it turns with the steering wheel). It's a very simple circuit.
