88gt Starter Drive Problem

Ok the starter drive went out and I replaced the drive and I think its gunna happen again, summit told me it was thetway it was bolted in but there's only two holes, then one of my friends said I need a 10 tooth drive. I don't know what tranny the guy put in there, prolly a. T5 every time I start it it like hits the flywheet

Did some research and jegs offers two starters for my 88 one is 3/8 in depth and another is 3/4 in depth. So I went to two parts stores and what do you know they only offer the 3/4 depth one. So i looked older and for an 82 they offer a 3/4 depth for a/t and 3/8 depth for m/t
