Hi, new to these forums and I have a quick question. I have the opportunity to pick up a 1989 GT 105000 miles (170000 kms) convertible 5 speed with the 25th anniversary plaque. It is all original except for a flowmaster exhaust. It also has the original paint and has never seen winter. It is black with a black top with the white/red leather interior, pony wheels and has all the options. Will this car be a good original collectors car or no?

Thanks for your input!

Not with that many miles on it for a stock GT!! There are too many of them around.

Sounds like it might be a nice car though.

To have value as a collectors car, it would have to be all original and have very low mileage, preferbly less than 10,000 miles.

If it is in near perfect condition with this mileage, what kind of money should it be worth?

that car looks pretty clean, I like the black. see how it drives before you buy it. I'd say anywhere from 3000-4500 for it.

If it drives good and looks as clean as those pics dont be scared to pay $5000 to $5400 not because of the year because GTs that old that clean are hard to come by when i bought my 89 it had around 102 thousand miles on it, was well mantained drove like new the car would have went 200 thousand with no problem, i started racing it and thats not what hurt it was my fault i floated a valve cause i was spraying a 125HP shot of nitrous without a window switch and missed a gear. That motor would still be running if i had a window switch and for a long time too. Go for it, save up and put a cobra or saleen kit on it car will look great in that condition, little bit of chrome on engine bay u got a car u can take to shows and cruise nights.

The 25th anniversay plaque is a $14 emblem that all Mustangs made from April 1989 to April of 1990 got...about 100,000 cars.

There was never an official 25th anniversary car made. It's just am emblem

yeah my 89 doesnt have it, but I had one that did....

The car isnt anything special other than it being a clean black on black with the tri color red/white/black interior which I can't say I've seen on another black car.

Regardless all fox Mustangs will be worth a bit more than the average car because they are desirable, but your car isnt "more" special than the others. It is very nice though!!

From the above: ...interior trim colors were: Scarlet Red, Medium Grey and Beige.

No mention of white/red tu-tone.

Edit: The site's info is woefully incomplete. The Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide lists white/red, white/blue and white/gray as tu-tone combos available in 89. There's even a picture of a red car with the white/red combo.
