89 gt vs ls1

i have a 89 gt, usual bolt ons, a guy in town wants to race me for a 1000 bucks. He has a ls1 383, 4400 stall on a th400 with a trans brake, ford 9in 4.56 gears, mini tub, a real big cam, and a two stage wet nitrous kit. afr 225 heads. the car is fast, he won't say how fast. and i know its faster i was just wondering all that i would need to even halfway run with him, besides a twin turbo kit, and or alot of nitrous and a built motor. just curious and doing some dreaming.

You would need a lot. Prolly somewhere in the neighborhood of 15k to run w. him. Built motor, trans, rear, fuel system, suspension, and a power adder.

That guy probably has 20k in mods. Tell him you'll do an endurance race and see who can go farther on a tank of gas.

yeah that car with a decent shot of nitrous is probably dyno'ing around 550 plus horsepower

Half tracked??? I'm guessing that cars 1/8th mile would look like his 60'... Poor a couple gallons of model airplane fuel in his tank and then offer to race, should even things up a bit...

The only chance you have is if his car breaks down. He's got you good.

Even if it did break down during the race, it will probably have enough umph to coast the rest of the way and win. You will need at least a 331 with a power adder and a bundle of suspension mods to keep it planted to run with him... Save your money...

Yikes. Your gonna need a built motor to hang with him. No way around it. 347 stroker with a big blower could do the job.

With a two stage nitrous kit he's probably making around 600-800hp total... Good luck!

You would probably have trouble keeping up to a stock LS1, leave alone one modded like this one.

pull 7 of his plug wires and u might have a chance as u sit...if not a 408 with a healthy dose of nitrous should do the trick
