I have an 89 Mustang GT and I have those turbine wheels. and im in the middle of restoring kinda and its still gonna be my daily. id like to make the wheels look a little better while i save for the cobras i want. and i think theyre really ugly. does anyone have any suggestions or pics of them painted or powder coated?

Clean the turbines until there is no dirt dust or grime visible, and then polish the tips until they shine like chrome. Mask the tips and prep the rest to be painted in a satin or high gloss color of your choice. You'll definitely like the results. Remember with any paint job, the prep is 85% of the work, and the quality of the prep is what makes the paint look good.

how bout gunmetal grey? i think white would get dirty too fast

ohh the gunmetal with polished tips and lip would look sweet on my black vert.

Even tho it wont be alot of money,save what you would spend on making the turbines look good and put that toward whatever wheels you are wanting. There a few people in this world that like turbines but I am with you when saying they are ugly.

Onlything I would do is clean em up and sell them after you get the wheels you want, believe it or not there is people that will buy them. I was just going to leave the set that came with my car with the guy I bought it from but instead I picked them up and sold them on craigs, if they are decent with ok tread you can easily get $75-100 for them and thats money to offset how much your other wheels are.

I replaced my turbines years ago. I bought the car new so I have them stored away for someday if I decide to reuse them.

I wish one of the wheel replica company's would make a 17" copy.

I'd buy and use them for a stock but updated look.

no but i wouldnt sugest painting them iff your going to do it just powder coat them that way they are durable for years and years to come

Good looking turbines.... they don't exist. I've googled it. Non-existant. Get some 10holes, they look much better.

I tired doing the clearcoat strip as mine looked horrible. Call me lazy but that was more work than I was willing to do. So I took them to get them sandblasted. This worked okay but the wheels loose the polished surfaces and when you clear coat the wheels turn a gun metal grey and unless you really get the clearcoat on thick, they have a rough surface. The center caps don't totally match but you would never be able to tell unless you look closely. All it cost me was $25 per wheel for the sandblast and a can of clearcoat.
But.....they are still a PITA to clean, you still get brake dust in all the little crevices on the wheel but now its harder to clean because of the rough surface.
I ditched my turbines and went with pony wheels and haven't looked back.

I tried attaching a picture but I guess I have used up my quota

I sold my turbines at the same moment I decided to sell them, to an aluminum scrap yard, got about 25.00 each. I didn't mind them but I wanted my Bullits cause they were easier to keep clean. I just got tired of storing my turbines.
