8LD??

My 88GT had the mass air conversion before I bought it. It had some issues idling and stinking etc..has an aftermarket cam, intake..etc..I did all the normal stuff to correct it with no go. Only codes I had were the AIR pump stuff cause it was deleted. I had that computer 88 Mass Air California. Just for something to try I replaced it with the first one I came across cheap which was the newer one for the Auto trans, not the A9L but the other one (sorry its late)..my car is a 5spd. It made a WORLD of difference. Idles better..no searching, stalling, stinking..nothing..was my old one bad? Dunno. Is this one better? ABSOLUTELY. You can buy an A9L and put it in an automatic car but before you install it do a search on here for the A9L and find out what pin at the computer needs to be changed around. If you have a 5spd either will work. I paid 100 bucks at a swap meet and lucked out with a good one. Also try autozone or advance..they are cheaper than you think.

i just did a swap with the same cpu(8ld) but i have a c6 transmission in my car. i also have an a9p laying around. so i need to switch back to the a9p? or could i just get a manual o2 harness?

You could do either. An 88-89 manual harness is what younwant, the newer ones changed a bit

It shows why there are so many p****ing contests of if an auto and 5spd EEC are interchangeable.

I know that for my aod '86 gt, I can use an SD 5sp EEC with no problem.

And, I know the history of my '86 from the day that my best friend decided that he was going to custom order an '86 Stang. I even drove him to the dealership to pick up the car. I have every receipt for every thing done to the car (dealership only) until he sold it to me (it was still 100% stock, even had the air silencer, etc).

I also have 3 different FORD sources of wiring diagrams for my car. And, I know that there are minor differences in all three! It sucked when I was hunting down a main power wire issue (broke from being pinched) in my '86 T-bird! Seems like Ford couldn't even stay with one wiring standard for the main power harness for the '86 t-birds! Argg!!!!

Yup, I know. That's why I have people to use Google.

Plus, it gets people use to using Google to look up stuff, instead of making posts like "How do I put up a new screen-door?" on a car site.

my car is an 87. it was originally aod but when i bought the car the c6 was already in it. i want to go back with an aod. i just recently swapped a whole 88 cali mass air harness in my car and i have the 8ld. i just dont want to fry the ecu. so i guess i will put the a9p in it.
