Ok so as I am gathering parts in slowly but surely, I am starting to debate whether my block with 152k miles on it is going to be alright. I went back and forth with the coyote swap, but decided to order some presents for myself like some heads and about to order a vortech v3 SI soon. Is this going to be to much for my current stock block? Had this car since highschool, second owner and yeah sure I did some back roads racing, then I parked it after highschool and garaged it ever since. Starts up fine with no issues, just needs a little tune up. My new debate is should I pull the motor and have it freshened up, and maybe stroke it, or possibly just by a new short block off LMR with forged pistons or even the dart 347?

No benefit of going stroker plus boost since you'd be exceeding the stock blocks potential. A typical HCI 302 plus 10psi or more will get you 450rwhp or more easily. If you can get your hands on a 351w then you have a lot more room to work with.

What are you HP goals?
What's your intend purpose for the car? 1/4 mile? Street car? Road race?
Budget? HCI alone is about $4k brand new (not including tuning, wideband, consumables)
Boost is pricey to if you're doing it right and hopefully you'll DIY.
A new transmission, suspension, etc more big $$

To determine health of your engine you could do a cylinder balance test, compression test, leak down test, etc.

Guys have put blowers on higher mileage engines without issue . Longevity ? Well eventually it'll be time to think about re doing the bottom end but i think you'd be ok for a long while.

If this is a new kit your looking to buy shoot me a pm and I'll get you setup.

Both fox and toolow have good points, guessing this is a stock car, you have frame connectors, brakes and other things to update. Make a plan, I won't go on about keeping the car simple, with performance upgrades of course. Just think about drivability with what you plan. It needs to be enjoyable in its intended purpose.

Well the car would be more of a weekender/ car show, take it out for a drive here and there, no track days that really. Have the essentials, pulleys, exhaust, gears, F-cam with 1.7s on e7s, stock intake, have a tremec tko with pro 5.0 shifter, alum. Drive shaft. I have ordered the TFS 11R 170s, and working on the blower. I’m looking into rockers probably 1.6s unless one can swap the 1.7s pedestal to stud mount for the new heads. Debating injectors size and mass air combo that would work well. Have a GT40 tubular that I’ve been planning on using but recently saw a Holley Systemax for sale that I’m debating on picking up, but don’t know much about that intake or if I should just stick with the gt40. Have an msd set up but it’s old system that was put in probably in 2000. I️ would like to eventually upgrade the brakes to full disc 5 lug set up. HP wise thinking 400-500 would be a nice fun range! As for the vortech and boost I’d like to drain as much boost out of it one could but I’d have no clue on how to install that or what fuel system management I’d need to swap to.

325-350HP is a nice number for a street type setup. You can achieve that with your 11R heads, and a good cam/intake selection. Beyond that, massive HP would be awesome, but if all you are looking to do is cruise around, you just want enough power to keep you happy and not have to worry about breaking everything left and right, or spinning into a pole. These cars are so light, that a torquey street setup can keep you smiling for hours.

It sounds like a nice HCI + boost combo that you're describing. Keep the boost down or you'll have issues IMO.

I'd bet, for a street car, that your F cam E7 headed combo would be tons of fun with your tubular GT40 intake and a Vortech V3 supercharger pushing 10 psi :burnout:

The old MSD systems are the best ones. No real need for them, apparently.

You could use a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator to control fuel. The fuel system is very important. A lot of people say the stock rails and 42lb injectors will support 500hp.....on my car I don't trust it. I'll be upgrading to 5/16 and 3/8 lines with aftermarket rails and 60lb injectors.

I use a Kirban FPR on my turbo car. I also have a Holley Systemax intake with a Comp xe282hr camshaft. A custom cam may have edged a little more out of my combo. From what I've seen the couple extra dollars are worth it.

I also use Megasquirt MSPNP2. The system works well but the learning curve to tune is steep. A91what helps out a lot on that.

Hit up TOOLOW91....he can definitely get you hooked up.

For what it's worth I have videos of my car blowing the tires away at 80 plus from a roll with no MSd hooked up . No spark blow out of any sort at 17 psi . I like having it there I feel the car runs way more crisp with it but it isn't needed per say especially on a NA car . This was all with a 25 plus year old coil and distributor .

I think you are on the right track. I wouldn't worry about the miles too much. If it does ok on a compression test, the bottom end is probably reasonably secure. There are plenty of people who have thrown heads and a cam with a blower on a stock bottom end. I think 10psi with 170cc heads is totally reasonable. If you can make good power without exceeding 6000rpms, the stock block should be fine. Spinning the engine higher kills blocks a lot faster than overall power does. I have a Systemax intake. Two decades later, it still is one of the top performing intakes. However, on TF170cc heads, I think the GT40 will do just as well. I would save your money on that one.
