I have a 93 coupe with air bags. I was told that the airbag discharged in the accident the vehicle was in. I am glad, because I don't trust them anyway. I'll take my chances with the seatbelt. I am wanting to install a earler model steering wheel in the car, which also has tilt steering. Do any of you know weather or not this will go off without a hitch? I am assuming all the electrical connectors and everything will be the same. Is there anything besides the tumbler that I need to port over to this car?

p.s. What is the best method for removing the tumbler if this will infact work? I haven't really looked at this one, but I put one in a taurus once. Does this one use the same dowel pin design?

its illegal to drive / sell / inspect a car that has an air bag that has discharged and not been reactivated. So I would bet that the air bag is in there and is ready to go off, so make sure you disconnect the battery or you'll be in for one hell of a nasty surprise.

The other thing, im not sure if there ever was a fox offered with tilt steering, but if there was you would most likely need the entire steering colum from that car.

Pre-airbag(1991?) GT's and LX's were available with tilt wheel. There's some legal issues involved here, but I think they apply only if you attempt to sell the vehicle with the airbags removed. Double check me on this just to be sure.

Well, this car isn't exactly hailing from a 'mainstream' market, so theres a good chance it did go off, and isn't replaced. Non the less, thank you for the advice, it will be followed. I do have the entire steering column from the donar car. This is south carolina, you can drive anything. As far as selling it, when I am done with this car, there wont be anything left to sell.

89 wheel and column and it is best and easiest to do the whole column and everything hooks up. I got rid of the airbag wheel and im using a grant wheel and adapter and moved the cruise controls to the gauge cover on the dash.

unless there is a Huge gaping hole in the steering wheel, the air bag is there. I wouldnt disable it for liability reasons. If someone else drives it, and wrecks it, they can sue you for disabling/removing the airbags. Not to mention the Insurance can get you for removing it and it wont pass inspection (if it ever has to) I would leave it alone. Tilt wheels are pointless anyway. The whole "airbags will kill you" paranoia is way overblown. If you are a normal sized person wearing your seatbelt, you are safer with airbags.. Period!

i had an air bag save my life once, gave me a little black eye, but it allowed my to walk away from an accident where I hit a pickup truck broadside at 50mph. Anybody who thinks they are safer without is crazy.

same method, just the pin in on the underside of the tumbler if I remember correctly.

I didn't do the steering wheel conversion when I installed the T-5, and I may end up not doing it at all. There where going to be fitment and appearance issues. But I still some how messed up the Air Bag circut, because now the light blinks.
