i have a 94 gt 5.0 5 speed, and i have a few problems. i am new to this and would like any advise i can get. thank you
1. car jurks ( i believe it is a fuel filter)
2. loosing power
3. some times it overheats real quick and sometimes the gauge doesnt even go past the O on normal.
4. sometimes i get a burning smell after driving for a while but i have no leaks that i know of

First off, congratulations on getting a mustang and welcome to stangnet.
Things I would reccomend first are:

(jerking issues)
change fuel filter
have fuel injection service done by reputable shop

(loss of power)
complete tune up( and above services)

(cooling problems)
flush coolant system
change thermostat to 180 degree thermostat
If that doesnt help it could be a problem with the gauge or sending unit

burning smell is a toss up, it could be a small leak around the valve cover gaskets thats burning off before it goes anywhere else so you cant see it. I get the same smell after driving my car extended periods of time. I have no leaks either.

Thats my 2cents, welcome to stangnet, I hope this helps you some.:flag:

Start by pulling the codes.

1. It could be myriad things. It's going to take more info to even begin to diagnose.

2. Um, see #1.

3. What is the car itself doing? Are there signs that the car is actually overheating? If so, and it happens while stationary, you might have an intermittant fan issue.
Otherwise, a real gauge is requisite. Even when the stocker is functional, it's not accurate enough for diagnostics.

4. What does it smell like? Could it be related to running hot (burning coolant)?

Good luck and welcome to the boards!

i put a 180 thermostat in it last summer. at that time i put a new radiator and flushed the motor. i think it might be a gauge but i wanted to see if anyone else thought that too. i really cant explain the smell any further first time i had this problem.

How did code pulling go?

We really need explicit info since we're only able to perceive the issue with your car as you depict it and with what facts you present. That's why we ask for concrete things like codes, temps noted with a real temp gauge (a ten dollar parts store mechanical gauge works great), etc.

Otherwise, I can think of about 20 things that could be wrong, but they are all guesses because there's not a lot of info to go on.
I only say that because any extra info and facts you give us allows us to try and help you get this resolved.

Good luck.

Your best bet would be to get a $30 code puller.

If you have a Mustang you will need it many times. lol

You can pull them with out the puller, but thats not for me.

The computer is behind the passenger side kick panel. But thats not where you pull the codes from. There is a plug (two actually) inder the hood in the back corner on teh pass side. You just plug it there.

EDIT: This is the one me, and most others have

You can find them online or around here atleast, Checker/Schucks/Kragen carries them for 32 bucks.

Some wallymarts reportedly have them too.

Good luck.
