From an earlier article (2004):

GT2 is not the color code, I believe it's probably the exterior trim style. The color code is directly above GT2, on the other side of the the word "Exterior". There were three variations of red -- E8 is Rio Red, which is the purest red. E9 is Laser Red, which is a darker shade of red, with metallic paint. And then there's ES -- Vibrant Red, which is similar to Rio Red but with a bit of orange tint to it.
