Was that tank painted? If so, what type of paint? I have a new tank from ACP which looks great and they say it's precoated but I wanted to scuff and clear it before install so it doesn't rust like my previous tank which rusted in a few years (it was a cheap tank and don't think it was coated from the factory).That is strange but at least you know it will be 100% when it goes back together. Be sure to use dielectric grease on the wiring harness connection on the fuel pump hanger and also inspect the fuel tank wiring connector to the body harness connector. It is located here:

They are known to get water in them and have issues. Inspect, clean if necessary, put dielectric grease in there, and reassemble.

My tank was painted with just some cheap rustoleum spray paint, it looked decent but I'm not sure if it contributed to rust or not.
The new tank I bought was coated grey already and I'm just going to leave it as is when I install it

Thanks. I installed a tank a few years back and it already has holes in it. I forgot where I ordered it from. I have a brand new APC tank now that looks painted from the factory. They say it's galvanized and elctrostatic coated in their factory so I'm just nervous about the same thing happening. I live in the south so no snow or salt just the moisture rotted my old one. I think it was bare metal and untreated.
