'94 Power Seat Fuse

Hey Guys,

I just bought a '94 Mustang GT, it's great, but the Driver's Power Seat does not work. I was told it only needed a fuse, which is no problem. So I went to the store, popped the hood, popped one of the other 20A fuses into the slot for the seat/aux and it worked. So I put the other fuse back, went in, got some fuses and put a new one in the Seat/Aux slot. I tried it out...no go, after looking the fuse had blown; put a new one in and it blew right away as it was put in.

This keeps happening with any new fuse that's put in. What are you suggestions to fix this? I am in urgent need of some more leg room, and a working seat.

PS: Why would it work the once, then not anymore?

try to

pop out the plastic around your shift boot and see if any wires are touching from the 12V? powersource. They work on the same fuse...same thing happened to me after putting in my shiftkit.

Thanks for the quick response, I checked this when I swapped out the stereo last night, nothing touching.

Any other ideas?

I cant find a wiring diagram for the power seat. I don't know what else runs off that circuit. But I would remove the connector to the power seat and see if the fuse pops. If it does, the problem is in the wiring to the seat, or somewhere else.

But if it doesn't pop, you likely have a shorted out motor or something to do with the seat.

yea same thing happened to me when I bought my car. I know you said that nothing was touching on the 12 volt but make SURE that all the bolts on the cig. adapter are on real tight. I just had to tighten mine up and then it was fine.

Hmmm by the looks of it, the connector is right under the seat by the motors correct? (Looks like if I flip the seat back forward and crawl onto the back seats I can reach this)

yeah that is what you want. I found a fuse diagram but it only verbally lists the components on that circuit, and the only other one listes is the cigarrete lighter and 12V accessory socket (i.e. 2 cig lighter ports if you car has them). I think there is another in the ash tray.

Those could be shorted out, so disconnect both of them and put the fuse in. if it pops, start with the seat motor. if it doesn't pop, then trace the lighter wiring, or run new wiring.

Look for change (coins, not a new perspective in life ) inside the bottom of the cigarette lighter receptacles. That will cause a short.

I had one in my cig lighter when I got my car and my dumb self got a paper clip and tried to get it out. *pop*.

Then a few weeks later I was at McDonalds and I was getting some change and I saw a dime fly and go straight in there. It was in slow motion. I was pissed. But I got it out.

Hmm the change and the 2nd cig lighter are a great place to start. I didn't check the one in the change area, and there is/was change all over when I got it (a few bucks too ). I'll check this tommorow

Hah,

You guys are genius's -- there were two halves (all bent up) of a paper clip jingling around the coin tray cigarette lighter (on the inside). To be honest I think I saw these when I was first looking over the car and said to myself "I'll clean those out...". In any case cleaned that out, poppe da new fuse in and it's all great.

REVIVE
I have just purchased a 94 Cobra that's been sitting for nearly 6 years. Had the blown fuse under the hood but it was a 30A. Put a new one in and it worked for a while then popped. Twice more I've replaced it. I'm going to pull the seats and carpet this weekned to clean it and will check for any wire damage then. The car is at home so I can't check for the proverbial paperclip in the cig lighter!
