95 Cobra Long-tubes??

I am changing some stuff on my 95 cobra getting ready for a custom tune/chip. Right now I have a Pro-M 80mm maf, powerpipe, 42lb inj. afpr, V1 s-trim 255 in tank. Exhaust: stock headers, MAC off road h pipe, American thunder cat 2.5 inch. Would Long tubes be worth my time and hassle (good hp gain) with my setup or if questionable, should I leave my exhaust alone. If I change headers, I want to do it right the first time-what brand would you reccomend?

i would imagine it would be quite nice gains with the long tubes, keep in mind tho that you would need a new h pipe made for long tubes

I like BBK's one piece flange...but its all preferance. I've heard bad stories about MAC and BBK....i've had great luck with BBK. I loved the ceramic finish long tubes i had. Fit like a glove.

With a blower like that, you will see a HUGE increase in hp, especially in the top end. Above 4Krpm, you will be amazed at how hard its gonna pull. BBK longtubes are the way to go if you have a $400 budget on headers. Make sure you get ceramics. If you want REALLY nice headers, Hooker or Kooks are top notch, but are around $600. Also sell that o/r H pipe for an o/r X pipe. Since you are blown, an x-pipe will net you 5-10 more hp depending on how much boost you are running.

i put my longtubes on and saw a huge gain and now they're off and and feel weak and powerless yet again.

Although this was on a 4.6 and with that s/c i know you won't feel weak or by any means powerless but you should see huge gains.
The install will suck though

i have mac longtubes on my 95 cobra, they weren't ceramic coated though and they went to sh-t so i took em off and had a local guy over here ceramic coat them.

Eh...is this something you tested and found yourself? Or is this just something that was "passed" down?


Im asking you cause George Klass at Accufab has done tests between h and x pipes...the result? He still sticks to h's. A lot of it goes into the design of the x...as some actually hurt you.

I guess im just saying that info like this isnt always the best for someone...i still think mufflers and midpipes should be bought off of sound preference. Unless you're running a turbo...which needs specific high flowing mufflers.

Since you still have the stock manifolds, I would move to lt's.

I know you got a mid pipe aready, but I'd just modify it or sell it and still tell you to go lt's.

Honestly, I don't think it makes all that much difference if you go with BBK or Mac.

You see about the same amount of praise & poop for each brand

I'm not as knowledgeable about how forced induction effects a combo as NA
but
When talking about NA, lt's will most definitely prop up your low end by a substantial amount and add strength to your mid range as well. You get the benefit of the scavenging effect when talking NA.

Seems like the same would be in place if one was forced
but
I do wanna make it clear, I'm not certain in this case

You know what I meant(stock manifolds)-I was typing in a hurry at work. Anyway, I am going to be picking up a set of ceramic coated ones in the next day or two and matching h-pipe as well. Thanks for the input.

Well i havent tried it myself no, since i've never had a blower. I've seen numerous dynographs of it though. When you have a 400whp + car, you are moving ALOT of air and an x-pipe is a smoother transition in that it doesnt have the sharp angles an H pipe does through the tubing. There was a guy on the svt forums that had a 580whp blown 95' that replaced his offroad h to and offroad x and gained 12whp from it.
