95 GT problem

hey guys,ive been having a strange problem with my 95 gt,and dont know where to go from here.The engine cuts out while driving,sometimes for a half a second,and sometimes for3,4,5,seconds and starts right back up,because its still in gear. Ive got a fairly new cap,rotor wires and plugs,and i also replaced the tfs module last week.Ive been reading about the pip sensor,but when my engine cuts out,all of the gauges drop out and the check engine light comes on,kind of like when the key is on before the engine is started.Dont know if this is a symptom of the pip or not.Any advice is much appreciated.Thanks!

If the engine cuts out suddenly and restarts just as suddenly without any spluttering, there's a very good chance the PIP sensor's at fault. Heat soaking usually makes the problem worse.

yes bullit95 said true you have fault in your sensor's discount tire bloomington mnpipe so change or replace it early maybe it make dangerous if you not change

That sounds like a pip but make sure you check your plug wires to see if one got hot and melted the rubber. Could be shorting the motor out just an idea.

Agreed, PIP is the first thing I would check. You can take the distributor apart to replace it, or you can buy a remanufactured distributor. A warning on the remanufactured ones - they will test the PIP for proper function, but they don't always replace it. So your "new" distributor could fail within a few months.

Be sure to check that you were given the right distributor, many auto part stores don't have the right part number stored. They may give you a pre-94 distributor which won't work.

Alternately, you could have problems with a relay in the CCRM. If the relay is tripping, it can cut all power to the engine. Try the new PIP first, and then worry about the CCRM.

My advice is that if you still have the original 15-year-old dizzy, just replace the whole thing with a brand new Motorcraft unit. Don't bother just replacing the PIP sensor 'cause sooner or later, the shaft bearings will wear out and you'll hear it squeaking until eventually, the shaft starts to wobble and break rotor tips (leaving you stranded at the roadside). Don't ask me how I know.

A plug wire shorting out on a header tube will cause the engine to misfire but it won't cut out altogether.

Just because only one suggestion has been given, I would also recommend taking a look at the ignition switch block on the steering column. Sometimes they come loose, and you'll have a situation identical to someone turning the key off and then back on while you're driving.

It's not your PIP sensor. A bad PIP sensor won't cause all the gauges to drop, and come back. You have a connection problem somewhere. Do your headlights go out too? It might be something as silly as a loose battery cable.

Thanks for all the comments.The thing with the gauges dropping out is what baffled me.I took it to a mechanic that is a friend of mine,he checked it out and could not duplicate the problem.Im driving it to Havasu and Laughlin tommorow night so i hope it does'nt totally die on me.

Thought i would give everyone a quick heads up on what cured my problem.After getting fed up trying to find loose wires or bad connections,i swapped out my distributer and the problem vanished.Been driving her to work all week with no hint of trouble.Thanks for the advice!
