I Bought this car about a year ago and after driving it for 6 months the factory plastic clutch quadrent setup failed on me, i orded a new non adjustable cable, new aluminum clutch quad with 3 hooks, and a firewall adjuster, shortly after installing this the cable, it failed on me, it split near the pedals end, i got a replacement from the company and installed it, everything seemed fine for a few months, but the clutch got stiffer and stiffer the more i drove it now it feels unsafe to drive do to the amount of effort it takes to engage the clutch. Im afraid i may of had the adjustment to tight the second time i installed the cable resaon i say this is the clutch engaged at about 1.5 inchs from the top. I know have it adusted with the little bit of slack, yet the clutch is still very stiff. Could i have harmed something by having the clutch cable adjustment to tight?

Nope, more likely you have binding or high effort from the pressure plate, release arm or release bearing. The release bearing rides on the machined snout of the transmission front bearing retainer. When it gets worn and the grease gets stiff it will cause undue pressure on the cable. A faulty or appreciably higher tension than stock pressure plate can exacerbate the effect.

Do you have a fire wall adjuster? Running abd aftermarket quadrant without the adjuster is highly unadviseable

TuneUps, I am pretty Mechanaclly inclined, But unexperance in this sort of problem, If this were your problem how would you go about diagnoseing the issuse with the stiff clutch?

My previous cable snapped. Before it did, the clutch was really stiff yet I had to bury it in the floor every three or four days to get it to release the clutch. I went to adjust it again, and it popped. I replaced the cable with another adjustable and the pedal became a lot softer.

Micheal, This happen to me with the first one the sent me, i did alot of resarch on what kind of cable to get and i went with a non adjustable cable, Sometimes the pedal will make a pop sound as i am pushing the pedal towards the floor, did yours ever do this? also, when i adjust the fire wall adjuster all the way in and push the clutch pedal to check for any kind of resistance in the cable it feels to move free back and forth with no resistance.

I thank everyone for there responses this car has been a major pain in my rear, But luckly it is not my daily driver.

I think the only 'aftermarket' cable worth a damn is the one that Maximum Motorsports offers. It may be worth looking into.

I see the maximum motorsports high preformance clutch cable for $99 on the AmericanMuscle Website, Im guessing this is the cable you are refering to, does this work with a fire wall adjuster? Or should i do without the adjuster?

Yes. That's the cable. You need the firewall adjuster if you have an aftermarket quadrant.

My cable didn't really give me any signs. When I say the cable broke, it was actually the plastic piece that sits against the firewall. None the less, when I put my new cable in, the pedal felt way better and holds adjustment now. I bought the SR cable from AM, and already had an adjustable quadrant.

Ok, Im deffentally going to pick one of those up. When i bought the kit thats in it now the clutch cable had to be moddified to fit the firewall adjuster, which they said was normal and it makes a ratching sound when turning the adjuster, i think the one i bought was bad quallaty.

sounds like you have it on the wrong hook on quad and if cables are breaking close to pedal check alignment of cable going thru firewall ive seen them rubbing there. I have had no problem with non adj oem style clutch cables from latemodel you get to collect clutch forks you dont need but for 50 bucks you cant beat them! im on my third year with same one and i havent adjusted firewall adj once http://www.latemodelrestoration.com...ang-Ford-Racing-Clutch-Cable-With-Clutch-Fork
