OK, so i am hoping that i will get a 96 cobra soon if all goes well (key word is hoping)
but i just wanted to know what are some problems that they normally have.
and if i got it, i would save for 4.10 for sure. but is it easy to get to the 300RWPH mark on these N/A?? i know they have around 265rwph stock 305fwhp. but what can i do to make it to the 300 mark??
its a 96 triple black cobra with custom X and super 40 flows.. rest is stock with 67K on it
Thanks
Steven

K&N, long tubes or mid length pipes, UD pullies, cat back...these are all good starts to 300 rwhp.

There was a TSB out for a cooling issue that the 96's had.

As for 300 rwhp, you will need Longtubes/exhaust, bolt ons, a short runner intake and a tune and that should get you to the 305 rwhp mark.

If you are staying NA, I would throw 4.30's in there.

Both guys are right, full exhaust, tune, intake and gears (obviously gears wont add power) to get to 300 rwhp. There is a tsb on the 96 Cobra where they will change the radiator and mounts over to 97+ specs free of charge so see if it had that done. If you remove the radiator cover (black plastic piece between the headlights that the hood latch sticks up through) and see old holes for the older style radiator mounts, then you know it was done. Some Cobras will get closer than others to that HP mark, they are hand built after all. Mine only has O/R H-pipe, Flowmasters, K&N filter, 3.73's and a chip and has 299.8 rwhp Good luck on the purchase, hope you get it as they are special cars and you will love it.

Got any tips on how to clean the IMRC's? I just got a '97 with 57K miles on it. I figured I should get that done over the winter as a nice project.

Thanks

If they aren't opening you may get a CEL.

Another way to do it is grab the 2 main black cables that go in behind the intake manifold. Have someone or you can rev the engine and make sure you go past 3200 rpms. The cables should move because the imrc's are opening up.

You will feel them catch if they are clogged or need cleaning. It would be a good idea to do a seafoam treatment anyway just to get a head start on it. It may be that it needs very little.
