I am starting to research additional power for my 96 cobra and of course I am looking in the direction of a Vortech supercharger and 373 rear gears. However, in my research, I am beginning to see a lot of information about the use of turbos on the 4.6L 4v motors....

Is a turbo better and less expensive than a supercharger? What is the best option for the 4.6L 1996 cobra motor? I do not want to make the mistake of putting a supercharger on my car when possibly a turbo might be more economic, less expensive and offer more power gains.

What are your thoughts??

I bet a turbo set up would net more gains, however a S/c is better for DDing IMO

I just installed a Kenne Bell on my 97. Early impression is it's sweet. I haven't run it all out because I want to get the afr checked on a dyno first. This is my first mod motor an I managed to do the install fairly quickly. That's the down side to a turbo is the install in my opinion. Cost wise I got the blower, 6, 9, an 12 lb pullies, lightning maf, 42 lb injectors, sct tuner with a 6 lb custom tune an a 9 lb race gas tune for $200 shipped with about 10K on it.

Lang Williams;
Is your kenne bell a used unit and do you mean $2K instead of $200? Where did you buy all of this stuff from? Was it a package purchase?

I guess I would have to agree that I have more knowledge and comfort with the more traditional supercharger because they have been around longer and used on our vehicles for a longer length of time in the commercial market. I am leaning more towards the S/C myself at this point.

I picked mine up used for the complete kit $2,000 shipped. So far so good. Oh, I had to buy a 94/95 GT throttle cable for the KB, that was around $15 used.

If you are going with a centrifugal s/c get one with a intercooler. I went with the basic Vortech package and ended up adding a bigger maf, fuel pump, injectors, powerpipe and Paxton intercooler.

My 96 Cobra was my car for 8 years. The last 5 it was supercharged with a vortec, 8lbs, long tubes and 4.10's. Consisten mid 12's spinning through 60', and turning 114-116MPH. The thing was a very strong car up top. Really started moving after a few hundred feet. MY buddy bought it and his plans are M/T's and 11's with it in the same trim as when I had it.

If you go turbo make sure it's a kit and it's installed by a professional. I see some nice turbo set ups from time to time, but then I see some that are hack work and the cars engine bay looks like crap.
