96 GT, front hub question - roaring

I've noticed an intermittent roar that seems to be coming from the front of my car. It is the most noticeable at low speeds and seems to be on par w/ the revolution of a tire (tires are good btw). When I turn to the left it gets noticeably louder, and gets quieter if I turn to the right. I can also feel a vibration in my feet/pedals from 30mph and below. This is very noticeable when I'm coming to a stop also.

You guys think it may be the right front hub? There is also a slight clicking noise when I turn hard to the left and come to a stop, like prepping to back into a parking spot or pulling into the driveway.

Confused yet? .....

Not confused at all. Story tells me that the right front hub is bad. Mustang hubs don't normally go bad, but I did see it one time. MY friend had a "mechanic" try a brake job on the front of his car, and couldn't do it. He brought it to me and I noticed the left front roaring. Well come to fine out, it looked as if he heated the crap out of the rotor, and what that did was ruin the hub bearings. I changed it out and it was fine. Torque to 295ft lbs.

Hubs rarely go bad..but yours sounds like it is

If it was a rear bearing, wouldn't it do it all of the time and get louder w/ more speed? Had the rears changed two years ago though.

You notice this one the most under 30 mph. Over that and i can't hear it as much...

Is there anything that will visually tell me the hub is fried once I have it off, or is there anything I should check for while I'm there? I'm tearing it down tomorrow night.

Wow..this is Exactly what my 03' is doing right now.
Are the hubs a Pain to remove??

Edit.Tried removing the Hub before and Would not budge even with the Center nut off.

I'd check front brake pads. I have seen them crack, and they can make an ungodly roaring when you get on the brakes and heat them up...

Nah, not really. I'm waiting on a 1 3/8" socket right now. I got the nut off w/ a wrench, but need the socket to torque it back down. Teh wifey is out and is gonna pick one up on the way home. Other than that, it has been a breeze so far. Not sure if that is the problem yet - but I'll post back. Pads look good btw.

GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it isn't the hubs. I replaced both and torqued them down correctly. Absolutely no friggin change whatsoever............................... Man I am TICKED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas? Next thing will be to do the tow dolley trick and narrow it down from front to back. With new hubs now, I would think it must be some kind of drivetrain noise....... Who cares. I'll drive it till it breaks and then fix whatever.

Doubtful. I checked'em and they looked and felt fine.

Dunno. It's just wierd that it gets louder turning to the left, but doesn't turning to the right............lol

Check the pads on the front. Some are made with a small groove in them and they crack there. That causes an amazing amount of roaring when brakes get heated up...

Bearings don't "roar". Usual sign of problems is wheel wobble, or if you are very alert, a click/tick type noise that is not very loud...

I'm betting on the brake pads.

Yeah, but it does it either with or without applying the brakes. I also looked at the pads and they seemed to be fine. Dunno.....

I'll keep at it.....

Bad rear hubs will make noise too and get louder on the side oppostie of how you turn...just like how you described the front. When I was 17 years old, my Dad had a 95GT auto. I thought it was cool to downshift into 1st at 20MPH and have the tires chirp. Well I did that then all the sudden the rear end bearings were bad. MY shop diagnosed it by doing the turning method.

I would check easier things first though, like brakes, sticky caliper slide pins, etc.

OK..I just got done replacing the Front Hub a while ago(About 2 Hours).
The Hub was shot..sounded like a Roulette wheel when I spun it.When I put the front back with New Pads..the wheel was locked up.The damn rotor was so shot/warped that it wouldnt let the Wheel turn.
So..new rotors,pads,and Hub=Perfectly Quiet now.
