I have a 96GT (yes, the slow ones) with 120,000 miles on it. I'm thinking of dropping a new engine in it but I'd like you guys to help me out with a few things. If I get an engine which ones are best and which ones will fit. I don't want a $10 grand engine just something better than what I have. Or if I go the engine mod route which mods should I shoot for. I'm tired of all the freakin' newer GT's, older GT's, Cobra's, Z's, and saleens revving next to me at traffic lights. So which engine should I drop in or what mods should I do? Thanks for the help.

dude,
i have a96 gt with 100,000 miles on it. i have 3.73's, a bbk off-road x-pipe,and mac exhaust with a c&l 80mm mass air meter and k&n. it runs a 40.07at 94.1mph in the quarter. if u want better maybe u might wanna thik about the headswap out of 99+GT. a complete kit is only$1500. there are sevaral different things you could do, but i would stay with the 2-valve. that way you aint got to mess with the computer or harness.

I have a bone stock 96 gt myself. We are just about done with the T&J/TPS turbo on it so we will have some numbers on it shortly. It is taking longer than expected because the kit is going to be put on just like you would a supercharger, pretty much a straight bolt up kit. Numbers will be posted shortly from the dyno results with just the turbo kit on there with no other mods. I would look into building a motor myself if I were you since like the previous poster said you definitley want to swap those heads for some 99 heads.

get a stroker longblock: 99+ longblock with PI heads stroked to 5.0L...
u can P&P ur heads but for the price I would save that money and slap an affordable S/C kit like the mongosse from Cobra killer..or a turbo..depens of the price and ur budget...

If I were you, I wouldn't waste my money and time doing a headswap with 120k on the stock motor. With the new power and higher compression, I personally don't think that the bottom end will last forever. If you're gonna do it, do it right and either rebuild your engine and do the headswap in one shot or buy a create engine. Just my 2 cents.

Go to www.karkraft.com and pick yourself up a Mach 1 motor. Its about $3000 dollars. Those things run low 13s. With slicks and if your a good driver you can run high high 12s. Keep in mind your body isn't as heavy as the 99+ so you'll go alittle faster. :)

Just spend $5000 dollars on the swap. You can get you some a full exhaust, 373 :D or 410 gear :nonono: and you'll be flying. If your not happy with that just spray the car dry and you'll be in the low 12s high 11s.

Trust me after you do that you wouldn't have to worry to much about cars reving at you on the street. :flag:

I also have 96gt, It has 97000 miles on it. I was planning on doing mods to it. But then i thought it over, and i just decided to wait and put a new engine in it. I dont know wich one yet because i still am new to cars. But by the time summer comes around ill know exactly what i want. It is most likely gonna be a 99-03 cobra engine depending on which one i can find.

I saw the $3000 Mach 1 engines on Kar Kraft......

Do it. :nice:

Doesn't the Mach 1 rev to like 6900rpms or something? 3.73 on that = :bs: 4.10 or 4.30. :D

Will the Mach1 engine attach directly to my (96 GT) transmission? Or would I need to do something there?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes. I could be wrong, but here's my reasoning.

My car has the T-3650 tranny. The 01 Cobra also used the T-3650, I believe. The Mach 1 is basically that engine with cams out of one of Ford's trucks (maybe the Navigator?). So if the 3650 works with my car, and a Cobra, that would make me think that it'll work.

While doing that, it would be a good time to put a nice SPEC clutch in there or something. :nice:
