97 Cobra Mach 460 Stereo Replacement? Keep stock amp? High or Low level outputs?

My brother in law has a 97 Cobra with the Mach 460 stereo, tape and cd player. He wants to replace the headunit with an aftermarket MP3 type.

Can I just replace it with an aftermarket deck and keep all the stock amps and speakers?

Does it use high level (speaker level) or low level (pre-out) inputs for the amp?

Do I need an adapter for it? like a level converter?

I'm wondering because I have an almost brand new in the box Alpine CDA-7995 with no internal amps and just 3 sets of low level preouts. Used it for 2 weeks and sold my car. I had to get something with internal amps for my SUV, so I have no use for it and was wondering if he can use it. If not I guess, we will have to get something else..

What do you recommend I do or how do I go about doing it. I've done many stereo installs... so just wondering a bit of information...

There are 3 different ways to install it. You don't have any amp power so you need to find the adapter that will have to have rca cables spliced into the factory harness. It will cost you a little more, but it will have a good sound. If you cannot find the part PM me and I will help you further.
