I've been doing some research to get a replacement flywheel for my car when I do a tranny swap and I think I am more confused now than when I started. It appears there are two different types available for the 97 4.6L engine. Is the '97 Cobra an 8 Bolt Crank? How would I check for myself and tell?

Now, the next confusion... A lot of flywheels for sale have different versions balanced at a different measurement. How do I know what balance I should order for my engine?

Was thinking of going aluminum but would like any opinions out there.

Thanks!

Cobra is the 8 bolt, GT is not (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). You should be able to just order a flywheel for a 4.6 DOHC & get the right setup. The clutch size went from 10.5" to 11" in 99, so a swap up to the bigger diameter is possible.

I don't know anyone with an aluminum flywheel who didn't like it, but they are pricey.
