Sad news first... My buddies 97 cobra burnt down. Fuel pump went out. While replacing it, they were testing polarity and the wiring arced on the tank, ignited the fumes, and that's all she wrote. Total loss...

Good news... Most of the driveline has been salvageable and accounted for so he's not totally losing his ass on it. With this situation, I have agreed to trade him my beast of a gaming laptop (his burnt up with the car) for his long block so long as it is in good shape. Pretty much anything plastic or rubber is gone, so I'm aware that we will need to replace all of the plastics.

I'm familiar with the 2V Windsor in my car currently and how everything is put together, not so much with the 4V's. I have some questions...but the biggest two I have on the top of my mind are...

When it comes to headers, what year do I run? 96-98 cobra headers, or 99-01 headers?

When it comes to wiring, I've heard that I can extend my harnesses for my coil-packs and repin them to run with a 4V CoP conversion...is this true? Also, can I run my ECU and have it flashed with a tune designed for a cobra?

I know I'll have more as it comes closer to doing the swap.

For the year model for headers, most all will fit 1996 to 2004. They also need to be for the Cobra because they have a different exhaust port. Cobra's are more oblong/oval, while GT's are round.

You can extend wiring in a few places to make everything work fine. Swapping wire harnesses is not needed.

I would run your original ECU and get a dyno tune. That's going to give you more than a stock Cobra tune.

I did a Mark VIII swap into my 96 GT convertible, auto trans. Virtually the same as what your doing. If you got any more questions, post them up.

Good luck!

Damn that sounds crazy! No one got hurt? Your going to need a lot of things, the intakes are not interchangeable I think, correct me if I'm wrong. And the injectors and other things may be damaged. But damn no one for hurt???

Buddy of mine got a few bruises on his shoulder from pushing the car off the jack and jack stands and out from underneath a tree it was sitting under.

I've actually moved forward and skipped the idea of doing a cobra swap on my car. I believe I'm going to bid farewell to my 99 and move on to bigger and better things. Car has been nothing more than a pain in my ass since I got it... Done with all of it's issues.
