I recently purchased 97 gt seats for my 68 fastback. The drivers seat is power and both seats are hitting the roof when i mock fit them. If any others have done this "operation" i would greatly appreciate any advice. I would like to try and use the new tracks, but if thats not possible thats ok too.
Thanks

YOu need to remove the 97 tracks and bolt the 68 tracks to them.

You will still sit a little higher in the car since the 97 seats have a thicker seat cushion than the 68s. I solved this by simply bolting the drive side straight down to the floor through the factory holes. It isn't adjustable this way but since all the people who drive my car would drive it with the seat as far back as it would go, it works fine for me. The passenger side is installed with the old seat tracks and slides just fine.

If you want to use the power tracks you can lower your seat riser but that might be more work that you want to do.

What about the major operation of lowering the seat pan? You know cutting it free from the floor, cutting out about 1" and then rewelding it back into place? Or is that way too much work?

To me that seemed like alot of work.

It took me under 2 hours start to finish to get the seats in the car.

If you cut out the floor pans and then reweld them lower yes it will work and it is a common mod for the tall crowd with mustangs but it is a lot more involved and not something that generally gets resolved in only two hours of work start to finish.

Isn't it just a weekend type of job? or would there be more involved with the fabrication of the rails along with the lowering of the seat pan? Where did you get the seats for your car, they look awesome.

Yes for an expereince welder it would be a weekend thing. I got my seats via a local seller but actually originally found them on ebay...I just talked him into driving over since he was so close to me :)

I made some adapters/spacers that go between the 01 seats and the 66 tracks. My seats bolted into the existing holes in the seat riser an my seats slide to acommodate me (6'1") and my wife (5'). I did mount the tracks to the seats so that I can slide back farther than stock.
