Ok guys It’s clutch replacement time for my 98 Cobra (60K on the clock) Any recommendation of a clutch package or kits? Any links? I have found some and I know you can find BUNCHES with just a simple search but I’m looking for recommendations from the community and I’m looking for a recommended shops that I can buy one online at. My target HP when my motor is finished (it will be pulled and built next summer) will be roughly 450RWHP on the bottle. I want an adequate clutch but I’m not looking for overkill. Was looking at the King Cobra Kit. I don’t make it to the track that often., possibly twice a year. I’m not sure I really need a dual friction clutch but have been told that it’s needed. Please keep in mind it will be a daily driver and it will rarely be nailed from a dig, most of my runs at that hp level will be from a roll. I’m not worried about pedal effort. I’m more concerned about cost (still saving for the motor build), If I don’t need a $395 then I’m not buying one.

PS im looking for a complet kit. TOB, PP etc

Wow...All i can give is from experience...DO NOT go with the Valeo King Cobra clutch. They have been having mucho problems with reliability as of late.

I went through my brand new one in 2 months!! It just came apart.

Several others here have experienced the SAME failure.

I went with the dual friction and I beleive it is 1000% better than the KC in all ways!

I can't deal with a car that can't be driven the way I like!

Very cool info. Thank you. I may go with the Spec cluthes on Steeda's site. What brand are you running now?

CenterForce Dual Friction.

I hate the $$$ too...but after learning the hard way, I'll now never go cheap again.

Good point.
Get this I called my local Ford dealer and asked for a quote for a cluth replacement and to turn the flywheel.
He Quoted me over$600 for labor and $50 for the machine work on the flywheel.
If i wanted a OEM clutch it would run me $400 for the parts alone.
I had to pull my jaw off the ground. I made 2 more calls and found a respected shop in town to do the clutch and flywheel for $290.00.

Centerforce II. Awesome clutch. clamps 60% more than stock. Dual friction clamps 90% more than stock.

i am with every one here. i had a king cobra and it just blew up recently with only 7000 miles on it. i went to the track twice and made only 8 passes total. the pads separated from the disk during normal driving. i put the centerforce dual friction on. still breaking it in but it feels nice so far. this one should last longer. spend the money on a good clutch or you will regret it later. just my opinion and experiance.

Ok so I stayed away from the King Cobras. I bought a Spec stage 3 clutch. This Clutch should be as good as the Centerforce Dual Friction clutches and is actually less expensive as it it comes with everything and was only $339.00. I did a lot of checking on the Spec brand clutches and it's got great reviwes of late. Steeda also seems to be very big on these clutches.

Bang for the buck ......
Nothing better than a SPEC Stage II from Bradscustomauto.com !!!
It's my daily driver and my weekend warrior. It's seen 3 racing seasons and doesn't show any signs of problems. My King Cobra lasted one season!!

I was tempted with the Stage 2 but the Stage 3 was only $40. I figured since I’m going to be pushing over 500 at the crank by next summer I might as well go with the Stage 3. Thanks for your info. Makes me feel better about my purchase.

I have never herd anything bad about the SPEC stage 3's. I plan to go down that road when the time comes.
