98 Cobra Instrument cluster

Does anyone know if you can swap a 98 cobra instrument cluster with a 99+ or which ones are compatible with a 98. I wanna switch to the digital odometer but dont know if it will work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm almost sure it won't work. The 99+ digital clusters are controlled by the EEC. 98's and below use a mechanical speedometer cable.

on my cobra there are no cables that plug into the back. Its only two flat long electrical connectors. Maybe i will just try to find one cheap to see if it will work.

The speedo sender is electric, but the connection coming off the tranny is mechanical on the pre-99's...

I'm absolutely sure it won't work unless you change to a 99+ tranny and computer...

Oh I see what your saying. Do you happen to know how far back i should be able to go like 96 or 94.

There would be no benefit to change anything pre 98 because they are exactly the same.

Im not trying to gain anything the reason im looking is mine is acting up. So I need to change it out. Ford wants over $300 for the one part I need but i have a mustang salvage yard full of wrecked cars that I can go to and get the whole cluster for around $150 so you can see my intentions are to just make the thinkg work right.
