Interior and Upholstery Instrument Cluster 1983 Mustang

I am programming my own digital instrument cluster (speed, tachometer) fed information by sensors I install. I am looking for an intact instrument cluster to work on from another Mustang so I don't have to tear mine out to work on it. Does anyone know what specific years are backwards compatible with an '83? I haven't been able to find a solid answer to this online.

1979-1986 Mustangs all used the same instrument cluster housing, which began with D9ZZ, indicating a 1979 part number. There may have been differences in the appearance of the gauges themselves. The instrument circuit panels at the back of the cluster housing were the same from 81-86.

Hope this helps.

Note that the pinout of the dash harness where it connects to the dash varies widely from year to year. I put an 80 dash in my 82 and it smoked it. Put the 82 dash back in and its fine.
