the motor was just rebuilt and ive only had it a few days it is completly stock but right when you start it when its cold it makes the tick then after about a minute it gos away and doesnt come back any ideas
Does it COMPLETLEY go away? Go 30 mph in 4th gear and see if its still faintly there. If so its valve guides from gettin too hot. It can be fixed but its best to have the heads rebuilt or new ones. Ive noticed on th 96-98 Cobras that sound usually comes from the passenger side (thats where mine came from). Now if its only cold and completly goes away then its eaither the chain tensioner or the beginnings of the valve guide problem.
BTW The problem with the guides wont hurt the cars performance or reliability and it may consume a minor ammount more oil but really its just an annoying sound
Rebuilt?how many parts where changed? My 03 with 200k plus heads were just done .mine was like a honda for 2days than for who knows why the cam gears broke.friday nite i will assemble and install engine.i only had 2 bad valves and a big crack and this was on a replacement head . How much did your cost?
Dude, I am so sorry. I was mixing up the Termi heads with the B heads Yes on my 96 when we diagnosed it we found three sticking valve lash adjusters. I posted about it several times in SVT tech When they are noisy you can put the tip of a long screwdriver on the valve covers center bolts and hear which set is making it. Really they are only $8 each so i would just do all 32. There is a tool avaliable at OTC Tools & Equipment (SPX) 7928 - Ford Valve Spring Compressor Tool OTC-7928 OTC7928 OTC 7928 for $113 that makes the job way easy. You dont have to remove the cams and you can do it on a Saturday with everything on the car
The tool just compresses the spring and you just slide the rocker off and the lash adjuster comes out (have a magnet).
