I have a 98 GT auto. So far I've put on a mac catted H pipe and flowmaster american thunder cat back. Should I put headers on next, or will they not make a big improvement. I'm only 17 so im not planing on any to expensive mods. What would be the best next mods to do?

oh and btw, how does the mac midpipe sound with the american thunder? did you put on the american thunder first to get a sound for it and then put on the midpipe to see the difference in sound? or just both at the same time?

For the best bang for the buck do not do the LT. Gears are a big improvement. Suggest 4.10 for the auto. Also around the same cost as a good pair of LT. The PI intake with some aftermarket cams is big improvement also. I would not mess with the exhaust anymore until you can make the motor breath alot better.

If you are planning to build up a 96-98 car start with the complete headswap at the same time longtubes then gears. That is the biggest bang for the buck probably 75-100 horse over stock depending on the parts.

I bought the American Thunder then the H- Pipe. I have to buy part by part because all my money goes to gas, insurance, and aftermarket parts. It Sounds great though. If i got headers they would be shortys, so im guessing just leave my exhuast for now. If i changed gears, wouldn't I need to reprogram or get a new chip?

No not for a '98, you just need a speedo gear. I wouldnt waste my money on shorties. Trust me you'll love gears. I went with a 3.73 and now I wish I would have went with a 4.10. So get 4.10s!!

Ditto. Gears and leave the exhaust alone .... for now.

Save up for the PI swap!

you really dont have a choice on cylinder heads... 99+ is the only type of head that will fit your car, other than the ones you already have. If your going to get PI's i would reccomend the Patriot Performance heads; you can get them ported and completely assembled (w/o cams, shipped to your door) for $1295. Or you could get the regular PI heads but if you decide to do some engine work to it later it might be a good idea to get the ported ones now and save yourself some time and money later on.

If you're 17, my suggestion is to learn to drive first. This is not a facetious comment. You will thank me and your parents and their insurance company will thank you.

Hes right. I got my 98GT when i was 20, last year and dude...i was learning how to drive all over again. Going from my 98 F-150 to my mustang was rediculously different.

But if you still want to mod. Get 4.10 gears (if you are staying N/A - naturally aspired) otherwise get 3.73. Or you can get a STEEDA Timing adjuster.
