I have a 98 Gt with tranny problems. I parked it for the winter with plans on getting it fixed this spring. When I tried to start it mid winter it would crank but not start. I just tried it again and it is doing the same. If i pour gas down the breather tube it starts but I am not hearing the fuel pump cycle when the key is turned on. I have checked the switch in the trunk and all the fuses in the motor compartment and under the dash. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I have a tranny lined up but don't want to purchase it and start the warranty if it's not running.

Could you have bad gas now from sitting? Hard diagnose why you previously had issues. Did you put in stabil fuel before you let it sit, if not it's possible the fuel turned on you. Give the Battery a good/full charge? Any lights flashing on the dash? Try starting in Neutral? More details please.

If you aren't hearing the fuel pump cycle and all the fuses check out it is most likely the fuel pump IMO. I just changed out the pump in my 01 GT because it crapped out. Not too difficult or time consuming.

Yes, definately start there with checking the fuel pump. Somehow when I read your post I read it that you did hear it . Good catch Mike.

I bet it is either the battery or fuel pump. Both of mine went out in one of my ford work vans over the winter while it was sitting.

I believe the fuel pump is my next step. I fully charged the battery and tried swapping the relays around. Another guy suggested I try thumping the tank with the key turned on to see if it would jar the fuel pump into working and reconnecting the battery with the positive first. Apperently Ford has an issue if you hook the ground up first. I have tried both and checked the fuel shut off switch and nothing has worked. One thing that concerns me is the theft light flashes when I turn the key on and I wait for it to go off but when I start cranking it over it starts flashing again. THe car ran fine when I parked it, it just had tranny problems. Thanks for the suggestions.
