Lately my 99 cobra has been making a strange noise- It only happens in the morning after it has cooled overnight. When I start it up, it makes a "tsss, tsss, tsss" sound until it gets fully warmed up. Each "Tsss" is about a half a second apart at idle, and varies with RPM. I don't know how better to describe it-

I have two small .wav files, but can't attach them or know of where to host them so I can post a link.

Anyone who has any idea what this sound could be, I would appreciate your insight. It is really starting to worry me. Can't really isolate where in the engine compartment it is coming from-

Thanks,
Adam

PS- If anyone could host them for me, I would really appreciate it- I'll rip them to MP3s, and they should be under 100K each-

Can you hear it inside the car? It sounds like an exhaust leak to me. It may be that as the pipes heat up the expand enough to seal it.

Email them to me at nospam@servematt.com and I'll host them for you.

When you start the car up have someone check to hear where it's coming from.

Sounds like the serpentine belt either slipping while it's cold maybe its deteriorating in one spot...Might want to try replacing it with a new one to see if it goes away...

Thanks for hosting the clips, Matt-
I'll try another serpentine belt and see if that may be the cause- It's really hard to isolate, but I don't think it is coming from the header to X-pipe connections-

I think that it is either the tensioner or Throw out bearing...

Definitely the belt or idler or tensioner pulley. Nothing serious - just change the belt.

Thanks for your help, guys- You pegged it- Changed out the belt last night and it was perfectly quiet on startup this morning-

I wouldn't have guessed that the belt could make that sound, more used to the squealing noises- I was worried it was more of a valvetrain related noise, but it looks like the belt was it-

Thanks,
Adam
