99+ H-pipe fit a 96??

First time posting in this forum, im a 5.0 guy but im asking this question for a friend.

Will a stock H-pipe from a 2002 GT fit on a 1996 GT? what are the differences? can it be retrofitted?

The 99+ midpipe is a little longer so it wont fit.
