The dog bone is the balance weight on the rear end. It doesn't really do anything. I took mine off the 83, and notice no ill effects. It bolts on to the front of the pumpkin.

hmmmmmm........I thought that was to be some sort of vibration absorber

how much does it weigh anyways?

It is a vibration absorber, but it's tuned for the stock gears, so once you swap them out it doesn't do its job anyway. Some people will tell you 10 lbs.. but mine was rubber and weighed about 2lbs, if that. Maybe that was an ssp dealer option :rlaugh:

EDIT: and aside from that, dead center on the axle is the last place you want to be removing weight.. focus on the front of the car.

i took it farther than bypassing the coolant. i hooked up one of those koolers that have a pump built in, ran some lines to the TB and filled it with ice water. BTW i had an aluminum TB. now thats what i call a CAI.

Front Sway Bar
Rear Seats
Spare Tire/Jack
A/C and Smog Pump
Electric Fan
3g Alternator
TB Coolant Bypass
Shaved Body Hair/Take piss/remove penis/Clip toe nails

That last set of free mods WILL get you into mid 11s with a stock 302 depending on barometric pressure and which brand of high performance windshield washer fluid you use.

I thought all the 5.0 TB's were aluminum

besides, that sounds like a bit much for a handful of hp, I would rather concentrate my efforts elsewhere

 meant i had a 75mm TB and EGR plate. it was ice cold. and its not like i went and paid a bunch of money to do it. it was something i had laying around.
heres a pic. wish i took some better ones of the setup. but the cars gone now.
EDIT: the arrow looks like its poiting to the oil breather. but look below it. theres a white/clear line.

I'm not completely sure its a direct "plug and play." I tried running a 70mm meter with original stock electronics and my car really ran rough. I swapped over my 55mm electronics (which is a no no) to the meter and the car ran smooth and seemed completely normal. I'm totally against swapping electronics but in this case it seemed to work. Seems to me like maybe the electronics from the 70mm meter are not to friendly with the ECU. Can you explain or prove that the meter is compatable and is a direct swap?

thats what I was thinking. but for 2lbs it just might not be worth it being I still have the stock gears

I am in the middle of a brake swap and I took my Dogbone off last night and it was metal with rubber bushings where the bolts went through up to the metal bracket that goes over the Diff. I did not have a scale in the garage but I can tell you it weighs more than 2 pounds!

What car did you get your 70mm MAF from? The MAF needs to be programmed for the size injectors you have, so make sure to get one from a car w/ the same size injectors you currently have (stock=19lb).

83's didn't come with pinion snubbers there. lol. And anyway, the pinion snubber is on the body pointed down.
That is why that statement was baffling me, because mine is bolted up to the body above the rear axle assembly. Maybe he is trying to refer to something else.

I think what he meant was, when you swap the 70mm MAF to your 89-93, you reuse the 55mm electronics that were originally on the 89-93, like you figured out.

Sorry what I meant to say was to remember to bolt the bracket back on so snubber has a place to hit.
