A/C brace?

Installed a monte carlo bar this weekend. It gets in the way of the brace from the A/C compressor back to the top of the motor. I seem to remember modifying that brace many years ago to clear the aluminum valve covers.

Question: Do I NEED that brace? Has anyone else had to deal with it or did I create the problem earlier by modifying it?
