Hey guys, I got home at 12:40 today. Worked at 5:30 so I said what the hay I can take off the a/c and smog pump in 5 hours. Got started at 1, it was my first time, so with struggling to find all the right tools, seeing exactly what I had to take off and how to take it off, and figuring out how to put on the brackets, I got done at around 5:30. THEN came trying to find the right belt, me and my buddy took 3 trips to the parts store to find the right belt. I started at 70.5" cause thats what most people run. But I had to get a new alternator and they gave me a big pulley, so finally got to 74.5" and it fit snuggly. I ended up getting to work at about 6:40. They were pretty mad but oh well, theyll live plus my car was "broken down" lol so I had a pretty good excuse. The smog pump took about 5 minutes to get off. I still need to take off the all the lines, canister, that little box by the radiator etc. But she runs good, and if I were to do it again, I could do it in 2 hours, its really easy just alittle time consuming. I didnt feel a difference but she sure does look GREAT! and I know I lost some weight. Heres the pics.
Ill try and get better pics once I get all the wires and stuff out, It was dark out so their pretty blurry.

Heres a pic with everything apart, that stud was a BITCH to get out.

Heres some before pics

Heres my new alternator, I was pretty mad I had to spend money for an alternator and couldnt spend the extra for a nice 3g but i owe my dad 88 bucks cause I didnt have the money. It blew up in a parking lot, I needed one RIGHT away, didnt have time to look for a cheap one online or go to a junkyard and find a 3g, oh well it looks pretty nice and charges a whole bar more then my old one so im satisfied.

headers for the gt40p's get here tomorrow

I survived 2 1/2 summers. I'll never have a car without A/C again. I'll deal with alittle added weight for comfort. It sucks going places and being all sweaty all the time.

Looks great man!
I was going to delete my AC, but i didnt, i liked it too much after i got it charged.

I got rid of my smog stuff, but left the actual pump there as a idler pulley, it doesnt do anything.

also u should notice a good difference JUST in the headers, the stock headers make some backpressure which hinders your camshaft, since it has more overlap and the backpressure kind of keeps the air from coming in during the overlap. With the better headers, less backpressure and the air will come right on in and take advantage of the overlap instead of being held back by the back pressure.

alot of cars are designed to run with some backpressure. You can really only take advantage of no backpressure when you have a bigger cam.

I love it reliving my yonger years when i was 17 i took my a/c off because with my surging idle it would stall the car every time i cam to a stop when. I lasted one summer .. One of the stupidest thing i ever did was sweat me A$$ off for no reason. A couple lbs. and a hp or 2 you'll never notice it.

Ps. Trust me dont get rid of any a/c parts you will miss it

Well since we decided to make this an a/c delete thread, heres the trickflow delete. Relocates tensioner...I sure as hell dont miss my A/C, Id rather have the windows open listening to the exhaust. Also, the car feels like crap with the A/C on.

Whats with all the stock header hate? Aftermarket headers will only get you a little better sound on a stock engine. The stock headers are not a restriction on a stock engine, even with the aftermarket cam.

I think a lot of people don't like them cause they look really restrictive. On a mostly stock motor, even one with some bolt ons, they don't restrict the exhaust flow enough to cause a bottleneck.

I went through many FL summers with no AC in my 91 5.0, 5 to be exact, and I don't want to do it again. Of course I was 21 and broke so fixing it wasn't an option. When the AC went out in my 93 during the winter it was OK but when summer came it got fixed.

Mob,

Ya gotta let me know when your headin out to the track after you get the p heads on the car. I wanna see how it runs. Let me know if you need any help with the install. I was there about 9 months ago.

Yea ive heard the stock headers arent restrictive at all on stock engine. Only reason I got these was because I got them new for 100 bucks, and they fit the gt40p heads, and ive been wanting some long tubes, they look badass

Ill let you know for sure when I go out. Probably wont be for a month or two seeing as im in debt now with my alternator, but I just need 3 or 4 more paychecks and theyll be on. Ill say by the end of august at the latest. Im going on vacation in a week so thats a whole week of work im not getting paid.

Did you get a new H-pipe to match the headers and 02 sensor extensions?

The stud, I kno its a sever PITA. i just usde channel locks on the boy of the stud to remove it then i droppped everything and slid the stud out.... annoying yea, but its not too bad.

Deleting my a/c was the worst thing I did to my 88. Its great for losing a little weight, more room in the engine compartment, cleaner looking, etc... But when you have to use it as a daily driver it sucks. In the summer time you sweat your balls off, when it rains the windows have to come up, and your defroster no longer works so you windshield fogs up.
