A/C Eliminator kits - too many to choose from

What kits are you guys using and how do you like them? I just pulled my A/C off today and I need to get rid of that ratty, nasty, oversized bracket that mounts both A/C and power steering. I'm keeping the PS.

I see Ford Racing makes a kit that requires taking the pulley off the PS pump and rotating the pump relative to the bracket.

Trick Flow makes a kit that requires moving the tensioner.

What else is out there? I don't like either of those options.

The ford racing kit gets rid of the huge braket and replaces it with a very small one with along with an aluminum support. In my opinion, it looks the cleanest out of all other kits. It seems that all other options simply throw an idle pulley somewhere to take up the excess slack. It reminds me of the smog pump idle pulley they sell....they just look like hell.

Ford racing kit is the only kit to consider.

The Ford kit actually removes the most stuff.

Every other A/C delete kit takes the A/C off and then adds stuff.

Okay, thanks for the replies. How does the PS pulley come off? I see a big hex cap bolt in the center. I assume that's metric? What do I have to hold on to when I turn that? Can this be done with the pump still in the car? Thanks again.

You don't touch the PS pulley at all with the Ford racing kit.

The kit includes a new bracket that moves the entire PS assemble up. You do not pull the pulley at all. that bracked the PS pump is attached to stays.

I've installed the ford kit on my car, easy as hell and really cleans up the compartment

Okay, thanks. I was looking at this kit:

FMS-M-8511-A50

The instructions Summit had linked to the part number showed the pulley coming off - I thought that the bracket was rotated with respect to the pump, but I looked again and I guess not. Glad to know this *should* be an easy one.

That's the kit i have.

They show the pump off, but the round bracket is the same in A/C and non-A/C cars, so there is no need to remove the pump from that bracket

You just need to temp unbolt one of the PS hoses to reroute it when you move the pump. It's easy. You'll see what i mean when you do it

I have a March A/C elm. kit, It is the same as the trick flow. These two eliminate the large bracket,but they keep the P/S in the stock location.

Now, the ford bracket will do the same but raises and moves it in slightly, making more room in the engine bay.

I would have bought the ford kit to begin with if I knew the differences before hand, I could always use alittle more space in the engine compartment.

I used the March P/S bracket along with their alt bracket. It moves the pump and alt in closer to the engine and does away with the big giant aluminum brackets that Ford provided along with the tensioner. It uses a tensioner rod on the alt to set the belt. Very clean installation.

The Ford kits are actually the stock set-up on a factory non-a/c car.

+1 for ford kit, althou on my setup my PS and AC bracket were one giant piece of aluminum, i had to get a PS bracket off a newer car.

Also personally i stay away from idler pullies that take the place of the PS pump....defeats the purpose if you ask me.

deleting the A/C wont give any power gains since it freewheels when the compressor isnt engaged. so make sure u get the kit that relocates the P/S up to the A/C's place. looks much better instead of the tacky idler pulleys that look like ass. so your not just replacing an A/C compressor that looks more than at home in the bay, with a useless pulley that does nothing but scream for comments like " whats that for"

So you'd rather have a driveable pulley thats on a clutch as opposed to a free spinning bearing??

No i'm saying that getting one of those brackets that take the place of the AC is pointless. The fact is that you will actually free up power with a shorter belt...it's minimal at best, but a shorter belt takes less drag to turn. The biggest reason to delete the AC is to save weight and space though. I just think a big pully in your face is kinda dumb.
