Ok, so recently I cranked up my A/C and all I got was warm air. So I went and got some refrigerant and refilled it, figuring that was the problem. BTW the A/C was working this past summer. Anyway, so i put 3 cans in and I still have no cold air. Can anyone tell me what my options are, or what the possible problems may be? And one more thing, I'm not sure (because my knowledge of cars sucks) but I THINK that the compressor may not be kicking on. But like I said I'm not really sure that what I THINK is the compressor actually is.

THANKS!!

could be as simple as a relay or maybe if has too much refridgerant. best thing to do is take it into a shop and have them diagnose it. usually its not very much to have them hook up gauges and see whats going on and why its not working.

like above... either take it to a shop... Your system most likely has a leak in it somewhere since that the most common cause of AC failures. it could still be an electrical problem... Recommend either purchasing a set of a/c gauges if you plan on doing it yourself or taking it to a shop that has them. that is the right starting point

Short the AC cycle switch with a paper clip and see if the compressor turns on...

Check the plug on the compressor. I know it sounds stupid but my 5.4L truck just had the AC die the other day and it turned out the plug in the top of the compressor backed out enough that it wasn't turning on.

I've seen no proof of that! He hasn't said anything about putting gauges on the system to see what the pressures are at. He even said after filling in 3 cans, it never got cold. Most leaks start small, so it will be cold for the first hours/days/weeks until enough leaks out that the compressor doesn't kick on. If anything, it could be WAY overfilled since he put 3 cans in. It could just as easily be a bad pressure switch, burnt out clutch coil, or a number of other problems.

00'StanG'00: Either get out the manuals and be ready to learn something about AC systems or take it to a shop.

Chill out, I'm not trying to flame you, just correcting what you said in this thread.

And the quote about learning something about AC from the shop manual was not directed at you. Noticed how I put "00'StanG'00:" in front of that. No need to be so defensive.

Agree, could be something simple like a pressure switch or maybe an oriface tube...if the stangs have them.My old truck did the same type of thing and it was the oriface tube clogged. But you either need gauges or take it to a shop.
