A/c Remove It Or Not?

My car is crappy looking but it runs good, under hood and interior is nice and tidy, I do have a couple annoying leaks that are about to get fixed along with the ac.
I'm having a windshield sticker being made that says
Caution: object in mirror maybe faster than it appears
Fix the air so when you give me a ride I can be comfortable.

My AC on my 92 didnt work when I first bought the car. Freon was low and had partially leaked down. Good thing is, everything was still there. It's an R12 system so I picked up some Freeze-12 off of ebay including a can of leak sealer. I bled all existing pressure out of the system to start with a clean slate. I then recharged by specified volume including leak sealer. It's been blowing icy cold for close to 3 years now with no further adding of freon.

I would keep the ac and fix it. I took mine out hoses, condenser and ever thing else and sealed up the lines I cut coming out of firewall. Not much of a differnece in horsepower, but it de finally does clean up the engine bay if you want that looking neat. But everyone is right if it's your daily driver, and it's hot and your sitting in traffic, the sun beating on you and sweating that's when you'll regret it.

I have owned 30 cars now. I counted the other day... Many different types.

Not a single one has had working AC. 90% of that time would be me living in Florida.

I'm sure if I had a car that had it working, I might miss it. But honestly, I only care about the heat working. As long as your moving, it's not bad when it's hot. But when it's cold. Your cold. End of story.

My vote. Ditch the AC but keep the heat.

I can;t imagine loading up my family in 95 degree heat and humdity in South Florida in any car with no A/C. That is crazy. The only cars I have owned with no A/C was my first Mustang at age 16 and my drag cars. My current Fox is a convertable and makes about 500 crank hp and I wouldn't think of deleting the A/C. Just the opposite, I've owned 9 fox body's and probably bypassed the heater core on most if not all of them as who needs heat here.

Sooooo glad to have A/C, even went through the trouble of converting to134r. When I was 18 I would of put up without it but as you age it seems your just a lot less likely to put up with being uncomfortable.

Not sure if this was covered or not. But if you got a special lady in your life, and you want her in the car with you between June and august, I'd just fix the ac.

When car shopping, that's one of the first things I look for , if they pull the ac for power on a street car, what other bad decisions did they make. To me, it's as bad as carb swapping a efi car instead of just fixing it.

Hi, thanks for the compliment Things are great over here. Still have the Mustang (continues to get better and better) but none of the forums are the same sadly. I still poke around a lot but rarely get engaged. Good to see other old school guys still around too!

When I was looking to pick up my fox, AC was a requirement. There are things a lot of owners do to these things that make me consider them "hacked up". Removal of AC is on that list. My thinking is if the previous owner is too lazy or cheap to fix the AC, that may be how the whole car is taken care of. I think resale prices reflect that idea as well. Even non-working, but still installed AC is better than ripping it out. Not that I wouldn't consider buying a super clean car that the owner wanted to clean up the engine compartment, but I would consider it around a $1K hit I was going to have to take to get AC back in and adjust my thinking on price accordingly. If the parts are there and not working, I would hope that it's just going to cost me a couple hundred for some seals and a charge. Just another consideration for you.

BTW, I've had my car for almost exactly one year and my wife has yet to even look inside it, much less ride in it. I think she may actually flip it off when she walks by it, but I haven't caught her yet

Haha never said she didn't hate it, especially in NC summer with a busted A/C...hate probably wasn't a strong enough word.

Seriously, I need to finish my ac, but I have backup, if the air fizzles in my truck work stops till it's fixed! Get cought on I4 between exits sit'n still in the middle lane about August 15th and you wish you had ac, been there, done that and the t shirt is still wet!

True story, most 'stang owners on this site not using their cars as a daily park theirs for the winter, I park mine for the summer, because it gets way too hot in Texas to drive that damned thing with no A/C, I just take my truck and stay cool. Keep your A/C, even if it doesn't work right now, you'll want to fix it later more than likely, and even if that doesn't happen, a car with non-working but intact A/C is worth a LOT more than one that's been removed.
