A "Shocking" Proposition...

I have a 1967 coupe with a 5.0L. The shocks in the rear are TOAST. it looks like the car has been pre-runnered it sags so much! I have been looking at Shocks and would REALLY like to find a pair of Bilsteins that fit the rear but I have come up with nothing. Could anyone recommend a good brand? I don't like KYB, or Gabriel. I think their quality is crap. But i can't afford the Koni's at $125. ANYTHING between $50-$100 is cool, but it has to be quality. Any ideas? Please HELP! Links are great! THANKS!

edelbrock IAS classics? Maier racing has Bilsteins available as well but i'm not sure they're in the price range you posted



edit: if the car is sagging that bad though, you're probably lokoing at replacing the rear springs, just changing shocks isn't going to help. new springs are cheap at around $150 per pair or less if you shop around. also, keep in mind that the mustang was designed with the rear end lower than the front too, pretty much every early stang ever made was made that way with only a few exceptions, shelby and boss cars are about the only ones made that were level all the way around and even then not all of those.

I'm kind of curious why you don't like KYB's. I think their quality is great, and the price is freaking awesome to boot.

Too stiff(IMO)

I got Grab A Traks on back of mine

they fall into that price range too. I like em, they aren`t TOO stiff, I wanted a good stiff ride but with 4 1/2 leafs on the back, the shocks had to have a little "give" to them.

You need new springs to get he rear up.

As far as KYB's I had the white ones all around on a 71 Camaro and fealt they were too stiff for the rearend. I've been told KYB's grey GR2 shocks are better. I've only read good things about Edelbrocks, no first hand experience though.

Alot of what I am looking for in a shock is durability and longevity. The Bilsteins have that( I have them on my 91'LX). I have seen the KYB's lose pressure, leak, and lock up only 1 year into their installation. I have read mixed reviews about Edelbrock's offering.

Is the GR2 by KYB a quality shock?

What are you guys running in your cars? What have you run?

I have KYB's in the rear, and they are overdamped on both compression and rebound. I am looking at options too. I may step up and buy Koni's for the rear.

The front KYB's are valved pretty close, interestly enough.

I had KYB Gr2's on my '88gt, they were a bit firmer than the stocker's, but, I had Bullitt springs on all fours. I like em well enough that I'll most likely put them on my '65 when ready.

Mustang Depot has a bilstein shock package.

Thanks for all of your help guys! I went with KYB's Gas-a-just and they raised that car two inches! Those chunks of metal that were previously under there had NO pressure in them at all! Thanks again!

That will last a couple of hundred miles till the car settles back to the old ride height.

The shock (shouldn't) change the ride height. You'll need to change the springs sooner or later. Probablly sooner.
