Is it possible to put a T-5 in a Classic mustang? I may of found a 65 close to me, and I'm going to go look at it. It's got an automatic right now. How hard would a swap be? Would I be able to do it in my garage without a lift? All i have is a big jack, ramps, and jack stands... Thanks guys!

I did it in my garage, with no lift. (And I'm 62 years old!) Go to Mustangs Plus (they're online) for a lot of the parts (such as transmission mounts) you will need. Changing from an auto would be a bit more difficult, as you will need clutch mechanisms, but still an easy swap, compared to most. The shifter even comes up through the floor in the same place!! Go for it!! :nice:

I won't say it will be easy, but I've done tons of tranny jobs from jackstands. Its nice to have another set of hands when actually pushing the T-5 up into place, but if you have the expertise, you can do it.

Its an easy swap, adapters are made by several companies. Estimate $2,500 if you plan to use new tranny and mostly new purchased parts.

65conv50...so the "Senior Member" moniker fits, eh ;)

Way to go! :nice:

>chuckle< Thanks, guys. I don't know how it got there, but I guess it does fit. I've owned Mustangs since 1964, so I guess I'm a "Senior" there, too. My sweetie says the grey hair fits fine in a black 65 with the top down (and in her dark green Z3, too).

Hey, just keep going, you can have a lot of "Pony" years, too!!

As I said, easy compared to most swaps. An extra pair of hands is very valuable. Fortunately I have a son who is a car nut, and a son-in-law who needs to keep on my good side!!
