a1000 fuel pump question

I recently replaced an a1000 fuel pump that was in the car because it started
to cut out while i was driving, and it was beginning to whine really bad. I ended up just buying another pump of the same type/brand and everything has been fine for a couple of weeks but just tonight it started to whine again really loud, and under acceleration it began to cut out again. I was wondering if anybody has had similar problems if they are running the same pump, or perhaps can give me any suggestions as to why i am having this problem. I am not running a fmu or anything but i dont see why that would create this problem, i was able to run the first fuel pump for over 2 years.

are you running it through a pick up or a sump. I've heard the areomotives don't live long if you use a pick up instead of a sump although 2 weeks is a bit short.. Have you checked to make sure all your fuel and electrical connections are solid?

its through a sumped tank the one the comes with the aeromotive competition kit, i am going to try putting a new power wire on from the looks of it , it looks like its coming out of the eyelet a little bit, i wouldn't think a bad electricial connection would cause it to whine though would it?

Those A-1000's are loud man, they wear it like that, just put a big enough cam in that you don't hear it.

Those Aeromotives are known for wearing out... get a Barry Grant mighty sumo..

I thought i had heard negative things about this pump before. When i turn the car off and turn the key to the "on" position to hear the pump turn on, it doesn't sound healthy at all. If after leaving it sit for a while i try it sounds a little better, to me this sounds as if the pump is on its last leg

yup its on its way out, i ran an A1000 through a pickup for almost 2yrs. and it acted the same way your describing. i went to dual 255lph inline Walbros and this setup is WAY better than the A1000 and quiet too and doesnt act stupid in traffic driving. the A1000 is a good pump if only used occasionally, but wont stand up to alot of driving. if you plan on driving with the pump alot get the aeromotive voltage controller.

where can i find the walbro pumps and does it require changing my whole fuel line set up or will it use all the 10 an size line i have

yup.. i dont trust aeromotive stuff farther than i can throw 'em.. (well ive thrown some of theyre chit far far across the parking lot) but ya id go with what i got.. a Mallory CompPump 110gph (415lph) comes with 8an in and outlets..or a Might Sumo Barry Grant.. theyre stuff i trust a lot more than aeromotive.. thats just me and the exp ive had.

lemme see its been a little while since ive done this swap, youll need two Walbro GSL392 pumps, four -8AN fittings that thread into the pumps the fittings and pumps are available at www.fuel-pumps.net. youll then need eight -8AN female fittings and about 3-4ft of line to connect the pumps to the Y-blocks youll need. im kinda rusty on all fittings need but its not hard to figure out. it is well worth it too, the dual 255 inline pumps easily replace the A1000 pump, and not sure if you have this problem but i did, with aeromotive pump i needed to prime the pump like 3-4 times to get enough fuel pressure to start the car, with the Walbros the key needs one time and the pumps instantly prime.

ya i have to prime the car at start up everytime i go to start it, it gets annoying, also just to be sure, if it was a faulty fuel pump relay it would just cause the fuel pump to stay running right? i just wanna make sure that in fact it is the fuel pump that is the problem

Regardless of what aeromotive says that pump in not intended for street use, unless used with a fuel pump controller. I use their street rod pump, worked fine this year, but before I burn it up I'm going to add the fp controller.

Iv had an A1000 burn out on me, returned it to summit for a full refund, have another A1000 in now, havnt driven it enough to wear it out yet. When it goes, ill be going with barry grant.
