I'm looking at options for my car when the AFR/FTI combo goes on. I want to know what it takes to make an A9L on our 94-95's. Does anyone make an adapter or anything? Or is it a complete harness. And before anyone says Tweecer.. I don't really have the time to learn how to use it with the hours I put in at my job. So I'm looking at a chip or a A9L conversion. Any info will be appriciated. Thanks!

After I put together my FTI combo the t4m0 had lots of drivability probs. I went to a j4j1 (Cobra) by using a Tweecer and had much better results with a few extra changes here and there.

You may have likewise results, you may not.

With the older A9l pcm you are still left with what you now got, a stock pcm.

Why go to the trouble and money spent when you can just have the pcm you got now modified?

Do the chip BUT make sure the tuner you choose has had experience with Stangs other than just the fox bodies.

I did an A9L conversion and im very happy with it. Before doing this mod I had all kind of Idle problems and it got worse as I started improving the intake and fuel delivery. The car used to shut off it would die at lights etc. Since the A9l conversion I've had no problems, and I even picked up some horsepower. But most importantly no more idle problems it idles like a baby. I went through pro-m and bought the whole kit computer and all. I spent right under $500 bucks. If I had it to do over I would have bought the A9l computer off of ebay and just bought the conversion kit from Pro-M, probably would have saved $100 bucks but I was too frustrated at the time to care.

Here is how this works I thought this thing was going to come with a harness and be plug and play, not so. You will use the harness in your car. The kit will come with detailed instuctions on what needs to happen. Some of the pins in your harness will need to be removed and relocated and some will just need to be removed period. The kit comes with a fan control box which will need to be spliced into the harness. It sounds a little intense but its really not that bad. Was it worth it, hell yes. Haven't had an idle problem since and I can run pretty much whatever cam and heads I want.

Two things

The kit says you need a small screw driver to remove the pins. NO you need a jewlers pick. Those pins are small and a screw driver can't get in there to release them.

And second to do this mod you need a little patience and follow the instuctions to the letter. Be sure to solder all splices and you should have no problems, you don't want to have to troubleshoot this dude.

I would go with a chip in your case even after the A9l convertion that pcm is not going to like you either. So why go through the trouble of rewireing your harness and spending $$ on this kit and still need $$ for chip in the end.

Yeah I guess everyone is going to do there own thing. Honestly the problem I have with chips is in order for it to be effective they need to be reburned everytime you change something on your car. Not practical in my opinion. Me personally, Im happy with my conversion and don't feel I need a chip.

That's the down fall to a chip but remember a custom cam(or h/c/i combo) needs special attention and not even the fox pcm is going to let you live with out it telling you off.

The AFR/FTI combo is about the last thing I'm going to do to this car.. so would a chip be a better route?
The Reason I asked about the A9L was because a friend was going to GIVE me one.

A9L is comming out of an old fox I have. The car isn't a good one to build for vasious reasons, so The Hitman has free dibs to the pcm. What can I throw back in there just to make the car run?

Okay you said not to say Tweecer so I won't. PMS (www.andersonfordmotorsport.com) That's all you need dude. You can get it for around $800, so just a bit more than an A9L conversion, and it doesn't have the learning curve that the Tweecer does. www.stangtuning.com has tons of help if you ever have any issues. Even with my cam (114* lobe separation) the PMS manages to make it all work well. Plus should you decide to go with a wideband o2 in the future, you can unhook your factory o2s keeping the EEC from altering anything and giving you even more control.

I know the PMS seems expensive, and don't get me wrong, $800 or so isn't exactly pocket change, but this thing will blow you away. It's really amazing. Plus it can grow with you, like with the Interacq software for about $250 you can datalog and do all kinds of things.

Anyway good luck, just my suggestion.
