I know this has been covered before but I haven't seen much in the last couple of years. Short and sweet> Benefits of swapping an A9L from a 93 cobra into a 95 cobra. Give me all the details. I want to learn.

I Just saw a post on this last week. There are lots of benefits. When you mod your car you will want one. You can swap to that 93 comp or buy yourself a PMS or other type computer. I got mine after I upgraded my cam and my car ran like ****.

Dave

The pcm that came in your car is very capable of doing what ever you would want to do for a street combo at say the level of 300rwhp or better. Any tuner who can tune Stangs other than older Foxes would tell you he can make your car do what ever is needed with your original Cobra pcm.

Many reasons not to put the older pcm in your Stang but here is just one example ................

The act in the fox is in the intake and its in the pipe just before the tb in our cars. When you put the older pcm in our cars it sees temps from the act that are much cooler than it is expecting and then that throws off all the temp related conditions the pcm tries to deal with. Lots of decisions made by the pcm are based on the act temps.

A combo at the above level would benefit form a custom tune would you not agree?

Why should you have to go to all the trouble to fix all that stuff that is incompatible with the Fox pcm in our Stang before you even get started with the custom tune.

The Fox pcm retrofit thing in our cars was an option that many found to be a benefit for them ........ However ..........

Don't forget one thing ........................

This ain't 1996 anymore .....................

Technology has come to the point of giving us more options like PMS (still can't believe they picked that name), Tweecer, and Chips by SCT and the like.

I agree with Grady I have read here and on Corral that some that do the swap have an igntion problem that's occurs. So then they have to spend money buying aftermarket ignition box to remedy the ignition dwell problem that happens with the PIH swap. In the end you end up spending what you would of on a twEECer or PMS which are far more superior.

Grady that makes more sense than anything I have ever read and your damn right it's not 1996. I realy wish I had the funds for a PMS. I should have started saving in 1996. thanks man your wisdom is appreciated.

You can get into self tuning for less money with the Tweecer. It is a good value as you get not only the tuning interface but a data logger as well. I can't imagine trying to self tune without the ability to gather data for analysis and verification of your tuning progress.

From what I've seen the PMS is more user friendly.

On the Tweecer the drawback to some is that it requires you to have a basic knowledge of how the pmc does its thing in order for you know which values in the pcm to modify.

I don't see that as drawback myself cause the knowledge has helped me to understand what my Stang is doing and why its doing it now that I've put all those hot rod parts on it.

Its really not too tough to learn that stuff ...............................

learn a little ..... tweec a little .... learn some more .... tweec some more
