? about cleaning and installing lifters

Hey guys, I was wondering if it is even worth it to clean my lifter. I dont want to take them apart or anything, but should I dump them in some parts cleaner? If I do that will I have to bleed them or anything to get it all out? Should I just drop them in?

And also, the little x looking thing that holds the lifters down, one side says up, and the bottom side has some grooves on it, common sense would say the side that says up goes up, but when I took these out, on all of them the side that says up was facing down. Someone installed a cam on it before me. Should the side that says up go up? And what effect would it have running it opposite?

Last question, how do I make sure I dop the lifters straight? I am guessing the roller has to go straight on the cam, how do I know I lined it up right? Thanks!

I wouldnt touch them. I would replace them if i suspected problems. How many miles on them? they should be good for over 150k miles. the dog bones (X) is what i think your talking about. Isin there a bubble on one side and an insert on the other? then you have a retainer that holds those dog bones down. I beleive there is only one way to put them on and i think you will be able to see that at final assembly. Im almost positive the bubble side goes up. I cant fully remember, the last time i dealt with this was back in october

Yea, the bubble is on the side that says up, but I swear they were facing down when I took them out. I guess I will install them correctly this time, I will take a look at the retainer.

And how do I ensure I line the lifters up right?

Youll know that you put them in right cuz look at how the top of the lifter is flat where the dog bone goes over.

would not put them in parts cleaner.. Mine come out of a junk yard motor that got wet so I let mine set in automatic transmision fluid for a few day before instaling

Well I looked at the retainer and there is nothing for the bubble in the dog bone. Anyone else have an idea how these should go on or if it matters.

i beleive that the retainers sit on top of the bubbles not that i think of it. You will actually have to push down on the retainer unit as a whole to get the small retainer bolts threaded into the block. i do remeber that part

yeah you have to press down lightly on the spider to get the two bolts threaded in.

The lifters have flat spots on them that the dogbones slide over to ensure the rollers are oriented on the cam lobes..
