ABS REMOVAL

I am contemplating on removing my ABS and I want to know what to remove and should I remove it..

well heres why I am contemplating it. I got the 13" SSBC 4 piston kit and I feel like i now will have good braking, but due to the fact that the system has been just hanging out for 3 yrs now I dont even think it will work, you know during the RR of the K-member those sensors get beat up and i know that when we lowered my fathers car just taking them of and putting them back in, they stop working. And plus I think we have a pretty prehistoric ABS System anyhow.

I pulled the ABS fuse on Monday and have been daily driving it all week with no problems. I was having a problem with bad sensors engaging the ABS when it shouldn't. I think over the winter I'll be removing the box and putting a line lock in place.

I wouldn't remove it...

Going back a few years I had an 88 dakota with no ABS... everyday it was OK until the day I got cut off, locked them up and totaled the truck.. with ABS I may have been able to stop... this was a 30 mph crash...

I am in the process of fixing mine....I have a bad issue of locking up tires at the track (my bad driving I guess) and getting some light flatspots on them which is really annoying. Plus I'm slapping some snows on the car and driving it thru this coming winter so it may come in handy there. I'm not sure whats wrong yet but if I need an HCU I'll toss you a good chunk of change from my couch for it.

i doubt if it would stop the same in the rain or when you have to make some evasive moves with braking involved. brakes tend to lockup in these situations which can be dangerous....

My stock GT brakes are crummy anyways always fadded on the big end of the track with ABS or w/o.

I dont do much street time, so for you street guys its your car your choice was only giving my personal real world exp.

Like I said the car stops no diff....if I slammed the brakes on sure they would lock up I imagine, but even when I had ABS my GT brakes werent worth braggin over they actually suck....I dont drive like a nut on the street and even more so in the rain so maybe thats why I've never used the ABS function the 9yrs I've owned my car.

But for you roundy round racers, hard brakers that ride peoples a s s in the rain diff story.

well I guess its already there but i dont think if it doest work im going to put alot of effort into fixing it....

I think your car will stop faster without, but you of course lose any ability to still steer the vehicle while braking. I was able to avoid an accident because even with the brakes on full, i was able to steer the car to the shoulder. Would have hit them otherwise. Is the winter, snow builds up a little ramp behind the tire once it locks up, and this is supposed to help slow you down faster. I had an Audi 90 series once, and right on the dash was a button to turn it on or off... Sometimes in winter I would be sliding about to hit someone, and I could shut it off while braking. the car would start to slide sideways, but i could avoid the crash.

i deleted my abs and since my car doesn't see rain i really dont miss it. the abs that came in fords and lincolns back then is a dinosaur now compared to the technology of today. i had to redo all the brake lines which was very time consuming but it took off some weight and cleared some space in the engine compartment, and i sold the abs unit for $100 on the corral.
