Guys, I just ordered an Accufab Plenum and C&L Trueflow pipe for my 96GT.
I already have an aftermarket TB and Mass Air and was wondering how are these installs are? I was wondering how long I should expect for each?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Easy stuff...my wife and I took our time, cleaning everything as we went when we installed the Accufab TB, plenum, and C&L Trueflow pipe and MAF...less than two hours, again, taking our sweet time. Could be done in 20-30 min.

Don't waste your money on the C&L MAF. If you want, I will sell you mine for very cheap. Send me a PM if interested. Has only a few miles on it.

I wrote a complete installation article with photos, dyno results, comparison tests, etc about the C&L Plenum and Accufab throttle body together at this link:
www.yellowmustangregistry.com/cnl.html

You should be able to find some useful info there.

Great article, but the 80 mm C&L Mas Air Kit is a waste of time and money. Your Dynos prove it. The car is running way too lean to the point of causing engine damage.

The unit works buy causing a lean condition. It tricks the car. You get a HP improvement from the lean condition, and you would get more except that the car struggles to "unlean" the mix by adding more fuel at higher rpms as it reads the 02 signal. The entire concept messes with the car's fuel curves too much. It's a classic catch 22.

Stock cars do not need ANY MAF modifications.

There are loads of guys pulling this thing off there car. I had it installed for a while and had idle problems. The car was running 28% too lean and eventually started to cause a miss-fire condition. My case is not isolated.

The overal gains that you showed were good and believable. The C&L TB and Plenum has been shown to produce solid 10 hp gain, coupled with a good CAI and you right there with your results without the risk of ruining the engine.

If you don't believe me, fine. What can I say? Anyone who wants my C&L 80 mm Mas Air Kit, make me an offer. I will include shipping. I may just burn it.

As with any Mass Air changes, the air/fuel ratio is going to be affected, therefore the need for the tuning is of greater importance. From your post condemning their product I don't see anything that says you dyno tested the car, or checked to see what was actually going on with the A/F. It sounds as if you're going on assumption and general knowledge.

We added the ProM optimizer which aids in the tuning on the dyno to get the A/F dialed in. Without testing the "why's" of your problem, I don't see how you can give that advice. Parts react differently on every car, and to different mods on the car. I'm not sure where you saw our car going lean? What part of the testing are you looking at and what A/F do you consider lean?

Maybe I'm wrong, and you just didn't post up the rest of the story that includes your testing to come to the conclusion you did. But I'd like to hear the rest.

Go HoTO is right - out of the box, the C&L MAF leans out the A/F ratio. You can further tune the car with a dyno tuned chip or ProM optimizer or ???, but in the end, most people are not pegging their OEM MAF to begin with.

No...No dyno. But there is more to the story. The C&L on my car leaned it soo much that my car started to miss-fire. I was running 28% lean over stock and the injectors could not keep up. This is an interesting number, because it is just about what our cars are designed to keep up with. The C&L messes with the fuel curves and the 02 sensors that are reading the lean/rich are use this data to try to correct the situation, but the fuel curves are off.

C&L is mis-representing this product! The assumption is that you just slap it on. They NEVER say anything about a dyno tune. I have never found a tuner who will touch one of these things...it is bad science. Your tuner must be a genius.

Also, think of all the extra money to spend...optimizer and dyno tune just for a few extra hp. The typical bolt-on car does not ever benefit from a dyno tune. This C&L MAF creates the need for it. So you pay $250 for the thing and then another $500 after the optimizer and the dyno tune. I am not sure about the $, maybe I am just reaching. Seems crazy to me.

I have read loads of post from guys with near stock or bolt-ons who bitch about the 4 hp gain they got after paying $350 from a dyno tune. As stated before, using the C&L creates a need for a dyno tune.

My advice, don't mess with the stock MAF unless it is pegged. But that's just me.

I really appreciate your article. It was well written and documented. You should be proud of your work...very professional. But, I encourage you to look into this MAf issue more.
