I just got done test driving my car after installing my new 75mm TB/plenum. The install went fairly well, but there were a few hiccups. We couldn't get a measure on the TPS voltage with the key turned on, so we measured the resistance at idle with the TPS disconnected and matched that on the new TB. We also did a bit of an eyeball check on the idle position between stock and the new one, did some minor adjustments. I stripped one of the TPS screws so thank God Accufab provided some replacements. I just used a drill press to carefully drill off the head of the stripped screw to remove the TPS from the stock TB.

I checked each of the connections five times and after I was satisfied everyone was hooked up ok, I reset the ECU and then started it up. She fired up with no problems so I let it sit there for a little while...ran smoothly sitting still. So I grannied it up and down the street a few times in first and second, no troubles. Took it out on a county highway lightly accelerating to speed, again no problems. Stopped at a stop sign, turned off the ignition, started it back up, no problems, so then I romped on it pretty good. It took off like a bat out of hell and I was up to 95mph before I knew it. Drove it for about ten miles on the high way gunning it from 50 to 90 a few times and braking hard to make sure it wouldn't stall, it never faltered. I'm keeping the tools in my trunk the rest of the night just in case, but so far, so good!

I had a chance to drive it around quite a bit more last night. It definitely pulls harder in higher RPMs and the car doesn't seem as tense when accelerating, it spools right up there on the tach. I think it deepened the sound of my exhaust a bit, too, but it's hard to tell because I put my catback in the day before so I wasn't completely familiar with it before the TB went in. My idle speed isn't way out of control either like I've heard other people report. It goes up to maybe 1200 RPMs and drops down to just below 1000 after a while, which is where the stock TB idled at. I think that's a pretty successful calibration for the TPS considering I couldn't get a voltage reading off of it and had to resort to matching resistances and eyeballing it. If I had to go back in time, I'd definitely do it all over again.

Thanks to Ken01GTvert for the excellent write up for the install and thanks to everyone else who provided tips, those definitely helped!!!

First Post. Oh yeah!

I helped Steve install the TB/Plenum last night. Here's some more details for anyone else doing the swap:

1) As Steve said- the Haynes manual method to measure TPS voltage (probing from the rear of the connector) did *NOT* work. What worked the best was to un-plug the connector, and use an ohm meter to read the resistance of the TPS. The TPS had a slight bit of slop on the new TB, and I could easily change the reading by loosening the screws and twisting it.

2) There's a hose on the back of the TB that will hit your linkage for the cruise control. I think the TB spring is strong enough to prevent this from causing a throttle stickage problem, however it would probably wear a hole in that hose from the rubbing. Stock TB had a 45-degree bend in the pipe, Accufab had a 90. Problem was solved with two zip ties holding the hose out of the way. Remember- black zip ties are the fastest.

3) Don't worry about the TPS screws. They were a B*%ch to get out. We drilled the one, and with how tight Ford made those screws, and how soft the metal was, there was no way the other one was coming out normally. Drilling the head off doesn't hurt the TPS, and once you get it off (drill heads of screws, then pull lightly- TPS slides off), you can grab what is left of the screws and take 'em out with a vice-grips or whatnot if you want to save the old TB.

4) Not all gaskets are included. We didn't have a new one for the IAC. Would have been nice to have that.

5) EGR gasket did not separate nicely. It left half the gasket on the old TB, half on the piece with the vacuum can. We left the half on the vacuum can, with the reasoning that it was smoother than the result of a failed attempt to scrape it off. Accufab provided a gasket here, which we used.

6) To check the gap on the butterfly, go into a place that is dark, and shine a bright flashlight into the plenum end, while looking at the butterfly end. Note that the Ford part is a tight fit, with the hole in the butterfly for air, while the Accufab has a bit of an air gap all the way around the plate and no hole.

7) Removing hoses from old TB can be a pain. The "L" shaped hose in front was removed by first removing it from the hose that goes to the valve cover, then removing the L section once the TB/Plenum was off of the car.

8) Stock air intake pipe + 75mm TB = one heck of a job to get that pipe on! Definitely a two person job, one pushing it on, one working small screwdrivers around the perimeter. Back the clamp off more than you think it needs to, as it can easily hang it up.

All in all, the plenum looked great. Solid & well made, with enough attention to detail that it's show ready out of the box. I was suprised that the butterfly securing screws on the throttle shaft were not ground flush (they stuck out a bit), but I suppose with a TB that big, you have plenty of airflow anyway.

Total install time was somewhere around 3 hours, including our test drive, so not too bad.

awsome, i installed my 70mm and plenum(accufab) today also. i fogot the voltage meter so i had to make do. ill tell you what, all i did was take out the stock plenum and tb and put the accufab in. i hooked up everything exactly the way it was, didn't change anything. i know this was risky to not check voltage, but i really didnt see how to alter it anyway so i just left it stock and hooked everything back up. i was wirried about the idel but everything seems to be running good. oh and i didnt dsconnect the battery either. i started it up reved it up to 4000 rpm , needle came down slow and hung at 1500 for a couple of seconds. too long. i let the car idel for ten min. and warm up, reved it again and the car adjusted itself needle came down perfectly. at idel the needle is at about 800-900 rpm with no movement took it for a drive about 20 miles, no check engine light, and is running strong. hopefully this holds up and stays this way, the accufab unit is perfect. i also put on the slp catted x and magnaflow catback, replaced my old crap. love it
