Actuator?

Hey All,
I am about to put in my order @ 50resto.com and I decided to get to the bottom of my driver's side lock not working since I am opening up the door anyways. What happened was the actuator stopped working AND I am unable to lock or unlock the door, it is like it is frozen in place. I can not push down the lock inside either. I opened the door up and nothing seems to look broken. Has anyone else had this problem recently and when the actuator went could you lock and unlock your door? Has anyone tackeled this problem recently and was it a hard fix?

Do you guys think I would be able to use some other way of securing the actuator, like with a screw? I don't have a rivit gun.

Jrichker has a write up on his site here on stangnet, and his write up is excellent. i changed supplies used to accomodate what i had on hand, and it cost me under 5 bucks to fix my actuator.

sometimes when the actuators seize, the prevent the lock mechanism from working, even with a key. if you undo the actuator rod from the lock, it should work manually, with a key, etc.

Thanks for the read. What did you end up using to secure it HISSIN50? Also how do i disconect it? Again, I have opened up the door and looked at it all but it seems that the top of the actuator is on there pretty tight and it almost seems like it is screwed into the mechinism.

I just removed the actuator, I HATE RIVETS! Thanks for the info I am ordering my new one from 50resto.com this weekend!

ok, sorry to be late. you can cut the arm on the actuator (it looks like a corkscrew). then wiggle the actuator out.
as you have figured out, you can drill the rivet from the outside of the door. you now know that there is a C clip that holds the mount in place, via the rivet. you can replace the rivet with a bolt and nut ( i have read).

since you are goin to have to fabricate some anyhow, now, dont rule out the Jrichker method. i love the actuator. future replacements will cost 4 bucks (order a few in case the other side dies out or you need to replace one- they cost less than 4 bucks each). it takes an hour to do the first time, 20 mins thereafter.
i am very happy with mine. i have some short cuts on Jrichker's method (his write up is great, but would outlast the car). nice and over-engineered.

A new actuator for less than $4. Fix one side for $17, do both sides for only $23. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.
