Add an amp or tap into the stock ones?

I have a 01 mustang convertable with the Mach 460 6CD system. I just recieved an 8in sub and 150w amp from a friend. Before my boyfriend starts the install I wanted to know if it would be better to tap into the stock amps or use the new one. which would get me the better sound? Also, does anyone know how easy it would be to add the new amp to the existing head unit?

I'm assuming you are wanting the amp for the sub, and yes, do NOT try to splice in to the existing factory amp. An average amp install, even with the factory HU, should take no more than a couple hours, even if you are new to this sort of thing. Really, try to check out a car audio site, like ROE :: Car Audio :: SPL :: Community or even just google amp install and you will find step by step instructions on how to do it. Doesn't get any easier!

Hey jenjen check this. all you need is a

amp install kit ? a small one since you only have a 150w amp? (You can get a bigger "guage wire" kit if you have the extra $ ? and plan on bigger speaker or amp?) included Power wire/Ground wire/RCA wires/remote wire ? connectors ? Fuse block a+

But you also need a "RCA LineOut Converter" not expensive either ? $15-$30ish. An adjustable one is good because you then are able to adjust for better RCA signal to your amp? Google Image Result for http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41mQdP8OBYL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

You then wire the RCA LoC off your rear speakers leftside +/- ; rightside +/- This gives you your RCA now for the Amp.
Then your power from the battery and Short Ground the better
Then your on/off "remote wire" for the amp you can get from the back of the radio?
This install will let you keep the factory radio? 6-Disc
Have your factory door and rear speakers run off your factory amps just like the have been but little more bass? might want to get a ? 10" eventually?

I've done this on mine wanted to keep the disc changer? and sounds great? Now i've got a CVX - 10" ? which is alittle bigger than an 8" but have a good box for it?

Checkout my garage and see how i setup my trunk? might give you an idea or two for something to gofrom for your stang?

+1 even more you can add an ?Ipod hookup into the back of your radio easy? $20-$30? I did one on mine aswell? Let me know an give you info on what you need an how to hookup?

If you get a Line Output Converter and tap into a factory speaker wire, realize that your RCA voltage will be very very low and you'll have to run the gain higher on the amp to compensate, which can cause reliability issues. If you go that route, I suggest you get a Line Driver as well, it will increase the RCA voltage and not rely on the amp to make up for the input signal's shortcomings.

That's why i told them to get an adjustable one you can then adjust the RCA signal for better sound quality?
