So admittedly i'm no audio guru, nor do i know if i'd be aware if the sound from the stereo was great or not.
In my younger days we just used to just run random audio parts, though i was partial to rockford (no idea why) or powered tubes.
In my old Saleen Explorer the guy before me installed a high end setup that was about 500% beyond my needs. So i did nothing to that setup.

When i rebuilt my doors and door panels recently i added these speakers:
I ran new wires into the cab through the door grommets, the tweeters i installed in the dash with this stuff i found called Backstrap and ran the wires to the door woofers (which is where they connect)
I also dynomatted as much is i could inside the door near the speaker (saw that on youtube).

The backs already have Rockford 5x7's. that i didn't plan on messing with.

I have a 10inch rockford subwoofer to go in the hatch that sorta looks like it's pick up truck style. I was planning on just velcroing it down.

My head unit is a blaupunkt DAB retro unit (that i'm not changing and i love how it looks, though it's complicated to work)
25w RMS to 4 channels. https://blaupunkt.com/product/bremen-sqr-46-dab/ (yes it turns green to match the rest)

Old setup was the same stereo, old sony speakers in the door and stock speakers in the dash.
Did the splitting of the front door and dash waste power the way it was setup from the factory?

I've not run the new front speakers off the head unit yet. I'd rather just hook this stuff up once, though i already ran an rca that has 6 cables at each end to the hatch with a power wire.
My plan was to buy a rockford 750x5 5 channel amp and power the whole thing. (all front speaker wires have been heatshrunk closed in place)
Now i'm wondering if i could just buy the same amp single channel with like 250w and save quite a bit of money. The single channel ones can be had dirt cheap, the larger 750 can be found new on ebay for $200-$300

I don't mind spending money if i feel like i get my money's worth, but i have no idea how much positive affect it will have amplifying the front door speakers.

Without a subwoofer the previous setup produced pretty much no bass that you could hear with the car running.
Seemed to sound ok, but i felt like it was just all highs.
I'm sure there are other amps, but i just like my stuff to match, for better or worse.
Thoughts?

Just me but get a four channel and wire the front channels to the components via the passive crossover that came with them. Bridge the rear channels mono and power the subwoofer. Cross the front channels over on a high pass and at round 80-85 db and if that creates too much mid then move it up to 100 db. Cross the rear over at 80-85 db. Keep the rear 5x7's on the deck power as they are for rear fill only and do not require much power. I typically get the signal for the subs off the front channel of the head unit as I like more front presence and want to the subs to follow that.

I would just get a 5 ch and be done with it…… and I have 1 amp for my sub…another 2 ch for my rear and another 4 ch for my dash and doors…….. my 2 Cents

Thanks guys,
So today i decided to hook up the new speakers to the head unit, i wanted to close up the panels on the car for now until i get into this.
Sound quality using the components was much better, but it really didn't have enough power to run on high volume (which is needed) while driving and at a certain level it started to distort, which i've read is a sign of not enough power.
While the stereo will need more power regardless of whether or not i go 4 or 5 I think the car is just too loud in general. Super Turbo's are a direct bolt in, so i may just finally buy them, the ultraflo welded on there I think used to be called Race Magnums, so that tells you have loud they are.

As for the amp, aero your comment explains why i couldn't find 3 channel amps. They are all really 4 with a set bridged.

Edit: And the wires that i ran to the back were long enough to run to back to the front, so i just doubled back, so when i do change it, i can just clip them and pull them out.

Distortion is lack of power and that will kill speakers really quick so keep that from happening as much as possible. Take your time with it and plan the system.

I think i have it planned out, or at least i hope.
I have the speakers in the doors wired to the hatch (and back to the head unit, but that's an easy cut and remove).
Power wire to stereo and a 3 pair RCA to the hatch too.
The rear if i should decide to power should be easy, though i will wait unit i take out the interior panels to finish dynomatting and have the seat belts rebuilt in the winter.
I drove the kids around this morning and honestly i still think i will have to play any music louder than i care to, especially with them in the car which will most likely be every time i drive it.
If i go the 5 route i'm thinking the rockford 750x5 and i go the 4 i have a handful of more choices.
They used to have a 600x5, but it costs as much and if i remember correctly the dimensions of it are larger because it's older.

The first few are 5 channel amps (YT Search Algorithm is weaksauce).

I keep this guys channel on silent subscribe:

Interesting channel.
He does have a 5 channel comparison from a few years ago that the amps cam be found really cheap and appear to be small enough to go under the passenger seat which is where i would prefer it.
