Adjustable Strut Rods Mustang

Im in the market for some adjustable strut rods and im looking for some feed back. So far I like the Global West, but I heard TCP is comming out with a new and improved version of theirs. Does anyone have any info on the new TCP.
Any info on any adjustable strut rods would be greatly appreciated.

They have a hex and it is a nice part. I have made my own and they don't look near as nice as the SorT struts. We have a set on our '65 coup street/track car.

hey glen, those look pretty good for handbuilt parts, ahve you run them at all yet? how are the front mounts holding up? i've seen similar homebuilt pieces and the front mount has always bothered me a bit

it's not really the guage of the brackets that bothers me it's the welds, you know all too well what happens when a strut rod breaks, and i'm worried that the weld on of these would break or something and leave me in the same position


BTW, how are you coming on the ones you're working on?
 
Strut Rods

So far great, my prototype went to a road racer fellow here and all has been good with them. I did make 20 sets and did a few more upgrades like making the LCA mount instead of threading a stock rod. Turned out to be too much trouble to turn it down then thread and used parts were more $$ than cutting out my own ends. I also adjusted the mount so I have the Seals It rod end protectors on the hiems to keep out dirt and moisture and I was able to find American made hiems that are 3 times the hiem I originally bought at the speed shop. When I get a better digital camera (Coming soon) I will post more and better pics of them on my site.
 
Yes the stock rods are adjustable. But all of the aftermarket strut rods are known by the name "adjustable strut rod".

In a nutshell,
the stock strut rod is 1 piece, with a threaded nut at the end for adjustment , pushing or pulling the wheel assy depending upon what caster setting you're trying to achieve. The stock rod uses rubber (too soft)at the adjustable end some people use poly (which is too hard, dangerous).
The wheel assy moves up and down with suspension travel, but shouldnt move front to back but under hard braking and extreme handeling, it does move in many directions it shouldn't with rubber and poly. Also poly and rubber restrict the good up and down movement.

The "adjustable strut rod" is actually 3 pieces (in all the ones i've seen)
1 end mounted at the lower arm, and the other end is mounted where stock one is under the radiator, however its mounted with a heim joint (all the ones I've seen) which only allows free up and down movement of the tire assy.
There's a center section that is used to adjust to desired length and ties all 3 pieces together.

i just got the frickin' parts car dimembered, as you know, and the VFD(phase converter thingy) for the mill is in the mail so i can run the 3 phase motor off the 240 in the shop. after that i'll be hard at it.

Are you expecting much power loss or dimishished load capabilities using the phase converter? I take it that this is for your spindle motor - Is it a frequency drive or a servo?

i don't want to divert from the origional post too much but i got a good deal and it is for the spindle. i have a non-adjustable speed set-up(except for changing belts) and the vfd will allow easier speed changes, reverse ect.

sounds like your experianced in this area. i'm simply going off of opinion from other boards on this, so you can pm me with any insite you might have. as for power loss, i don't expect much loss at all actualy, well as i'm told anyway. its all gonna be a live and learn thing with this.

I gotta say there is a BIG difference. I especially notice it when braking hard. The lower control arms stay right where they should be and the geometry doesn't change. Much more predictable.

I'm going to have to COMPLETELY disagree with you on this one!

Without the experience of running then first hand I can't say much, but just from looking at them from an engineering point of view I can see where they would be FAR superior over the stock setup. Pretty much the same situation as I see the coil spring perch... my new roller coil spring perch setup has allowed my suspension to react much quicker than the factory rubber bushing allowed on my last auto-x outing. When one starts to comprehend
the forces places on the strut rods an adjustable setup "should" be far superior to a stock set, in additon to an easier alignment.
